Government, what you really want us to do?

Asking each and everyone to do all those things? I think not possible. Find out what is best and what one can do. Each has a part to contribute. The rest if garmen think not enough, they've alreadi found their solutions - FT.

Yes, it's really bad for those taking school buses. Kids have get to up at 5+ just to catch the school buses. Even for those staying near the schools, the timing isn't too ideal too. This has been the bugbear of parents for too long, and is there really no solution to it?
I understand that the drivers have to pick up workers also but how does it work in other countries? Do they face such similar problems? -

But since the move now by MOE is towards a student-centric education, shouldn't it also encompass the whole well-being of the child? If a child is devoid of quality rest, how does quality learning come in?

Looking how our govt handled this for the past few years as ..like you, I'm not hopeful that any changes will be in sight soon. :roll: -
:oops: Thank you for your inputs and giving me an opportunity to rant here! Honestly, these problems are not novice and wonder why Government chose to ignore them and left them to us FTWMs to handle and settle all those problems.
Personally, I think that NOT until they have solutions for all these problems, we will continue to have problem with our reproduction and relying on tuition. We will continue to have no life to struggle and cope with all those problems. You can't choose to ignore them as if there are no problems at all! Face it and don't behave like an ostrich and bury your head in the sand and hope for the problems go away by itself!
It took them more than 10 years to source for solution but only found that our fertility rate is still unstoppably declining...We have overpaid them - both ministers and top civil servants and yet they are unable to solve the reproduction problem in Singapore to achieve a sustainable population.
Please recognize the problems first (NOT to defense them) before you can tackle them one by one...NOT to resort to a quick short term solutions but they are going to hurt for long term and sustainable solution and eventually threaten the Singapore's economic (you won't see the consequences now but they will haunt you in future).
I can name a few quick short term solutions such as:
1) allowing more FT to come here (short term solution) versus solving the reproduction problem to have a sustainable population (for long term)
2) Aging problem, old folks work till 75 yo (short term solution) vs solving the reproduction problem to have a sustainable population (for long term). Worst still, this may have reciprocal effect such as taking away the supports for young to raise a family
3) Education system, needless to say more and many have already discussed extensively here in KSP..(I'm going to give them some benefits of doubts for now since they are working to improve the edu system now)

Specialization will lead to an overall increase in productivity. When people are permited and encouraged to do what they love to do, they will acquire higher proficiency in their areas of specialty. So, the enterprise solution is to enhance productivity by re-organizing units of production towards greater specialization.
Department A will be in charge of producing babies.
Department B will be in charge of taking care of the babies produced by Department A.
Department C will be in charge of adding value to the babies through education once the products... urhm... I mean babies have sufficiently matured to be transferred from Department B.
Department D will be in charge of working to finance the operations of aforesaid Departments.
And the best part is, this whole concept is easily scalable in implementation. Furthermore, since each batch of babies can be re-assigned to the various departments once the manufacturing... I mean cultivation... uhm... well whatever process you know what I mean... is completed, the operation is self-sustaining. All that is needed is a little bit of tweaking to the tax system.
Finally, if being in any particular department is unappealing to Singaporeans, HR can always get some FTs to fill those vacancies.
In conclusion, the problem is solvable. All we need to do is to seek some out of the box solutions.

I worked part time when my dd was born. Another thing that would help tremendously is professional part time work. While I was lucky to find part time work for graduates, I realized most of the part time jobs are considered as contract, temp basis. A lot of benefits are not given at all, no bonus, no increment, and very often the jobs are re negotiated every year or 6months so no job security as well. Fr my own experience only gov and stat board provide these opportunities, and it's very rare to find in private. Maybe the gov can take lead to provide Pt work at full benefits (pro rated), with appraisals, bonus and promos accordingly. It'll be a lot less taxing for a PTWM compared to a FTWM. FTWM is no joke, even if your kid is in CC, esp if the hubby travels a lot like mine.
Another would be to maybe provide some incentives for companies to hire SAHM who wants to return to the workforce. I find that generally SG co are more reluctant to hire SAHM, compared with some European countries that I know of (e.g uk) maybe offer tax breaks to companies who hire ex SAHM?
Then more women would be more willing to have babies and stay at home for a couple of years, knowing that they can re join the workforce. -
