Government, what you really want us to do?

Personally I like early hours for school. I used to go to school so early(by public bus) that there was no traffic jam and I could enjoy the wonderful fresh morning air and dew every day and watch the day break beautifully. It was a fantastic way to start my day every day. These are actually simple joys of life that kids today do not know how to appreciate because parents are not keen in early hours and cascade the sentiments to the kids.
Yeah, I agree! It forces kids to sleep early too, which is no bad thing. -
The title of this thread should really be "People, what do you really expect the g’ment to do?"
People expect everything to be laid out on a platter. I luurve PM’s riposte during the televised session last week to the young man who said he didn’t want to get married. Well, our parents had far fewer resources and safety nets, never stopped them from having hopes and dreams and daring to try right?
Maid off every weekend so difficult to deal with meh? -

If you are a SAHM, then it's not.... but if you are a FTWM you can't even have a decent day off on Sunday cos your FW helper is having hers.... in this case, a FTWM is a worse job than a FW domestic helper... this could just be one of the reasons that the yuppies generation are delaying their motherhood.... -

But maid off every weekend and its related problems are a separate matter which had been debated to death. it is totally not difficult to deal, if the MOM can change the rules that make employer liable for all kinds of troubles created by maids being off, eg unwanted pregnancy and all its related cost and troubles
other troubles like unwanted visitors to employer's residence, maid scooting off in the dark of night to rv with lovers, endless chatting on phone during day time, neglect of duty, addicted to facebook, twitter, sms .....all arise from maids having off day.
we have been through all these debates countless times. not going to go through it again. prefer to keep my peace with you than to argue another time
maid or no maid should not be an issue with marriage / parenthood -
mamago:
no, it can be managed. we can't expect to be 100% totally switched off on sunday / saturday just because it is our day off, unless you are treating your home as a hotel, and your kids are the visitors to your hotel room3Boys:

the maid can go out based on negotiated hours and provided don't create financial / legal troubles for the employers, and be trustworthy on the time out agreed. time to be home, be home -

I understand your point about liability of badly behaved maids, and agree with you on that point, but I believe it is a minority and should not become the basis for a blanket exclusionary policy. -

My mum was a FTWM too, with NO maid. You think she had that much time off over the weekend? Kids can help out with housework too, you know?3Boys:

In other words, the yuppie generation need everything laid out on a platter, a bit of sacrifice is a no-no. -

As it is now, there is no more blanket exclusionary policy but employers' liability are not lifted. Minister Gan Kim Yong (or is it now Chan Chun Sing?) better look into this. We cannot just please the NGO at Geneva at the expense of our sanity with regard to maid's employment terms. really xiao liao -

unfortunately many kids still stay till late / wee hours of the morning, facebooking in the name of project, groups discussion etc etc[/quote]I forced mine to sleep early. Problem is she couldn't finish her homework as she returned home around 4pm twice to thrice a week. Next day teacher made her 罚站. Her classmates managed to finish theirs so comparatively she seems slacked in her completing her homework. But her classmates slept at 11+pm while my dd's bedtime is at 9+pm. Hence she's cute and chubby which is more important to me than completing homework :evil:3Boys:
