MP echoes calls for PSLE to be scrapped

Go cher go!! :rahrah: :rahrah: :rahrah:Our education system needs some tweaking but it's not in such a dire state as in needing a total revamp. I'm definitely not in favour of abolishing the PSLE. As much as I agree with no banding, less homework with more time for other pursuits, no PSLE seems a drastic move.
The outcome of too many big changes may not yield the results that we're hoping to see.

This is not the first time I am calling for PSLE to be scrapped for GEP students who have achieved above 80% in GE exam overall. Am seeing these kids being drilled for papers after papers though they have gained confirm offer to their secondary schools. It is wasting their time and energy. They should be arranged to participate in CIP, leadership camp, character and team building programme, etc etc…
This is the most viable group to implement skipping of PSLE, but why no one hear it leh? -

now P1/2 honeymoon coz no exam :imcool:
I feel that grade 6 (age 12) is too early for all children to be ready, to be mature enough, to sit for an important, national-level exam. Yet, to prevent the P1 registration process from becoming more high-stakes, we need some kind of testing at higher levels.MMM:
We can have more \"through-train\" schools, where students gain entry to affiliated secondary schools without a common exam.
While solving one problem, we are creating another... Just imagine the pressure is now shifted to the already highly pressured P1 registration process. Parents now need to make sure their kids go to a school with a good affiliated secondary school...
My suggestion is to have primary schools go on till grade 8. Then conduct a PSLE-type exam at the end of 8th. Those two extra years will give most children time to mature and to appreciate the importance of being well-prepared for the PSLE.
:boogie:
P3/4 wakeup call for most
:nailbite:
P5/6 nightmare for most :yikes:
:imdrowning: :frustrated:
P7/8 ?? really can't imagine what will it like with another 2yrs of torture... :lightrod: :torchme: -
SAHM_TAN:
Maybe they got the idea from Malaysia? :?Pte, independent primary schools????? Wouldn't such a move drain the number of teachers away from gvt primary schools? :?
More MPs hoping for pte/international schools for their kids? :siam:

if GEP students who have achieved above 80% in GE exam can skip PSLE, why not get MOE to standardise and issue standard papers for mainstream too? then mainstreamers who have achieved above 80% in MS exam can skip PSLE and go for dsa like their GEP counterparts. then can save their time and energy and can particpate in CIP, leadership camp, character and team building programme, etc etc...This is not the first time I am calling for PSLE to be scrapped for GEP students who have achieved above 80% in GE exam overall. aren't the mainstreamers a viable group to implement skipping psle since bulk of tier 1-3 secondary schools consists mainly of mainstreamers who are consistent performers in pri schools? (ok, this is an assumption i make

Doing away with PSLE is too much of a knee jerk reaction to all the PSLE grouses. Parents in general have no issue with a national exam I feel, it is the over-emphasis of its importance and the over-testing of some schools that have riled many parents. :siam: -

PSLE is suppose to be the common papers for all mainstreamers and giving them more time to prepare mah in Oct.

Schooling is but one part of societal needs. I guess since we are on KSP, the forum members might be sympathisers to such a position, but I am of the view that we already commit too much resources into education at the cost of other things.
Like what other things? Ministerial pay?
Hahaha, you must have foreseen this ping pong ball flying over from who else but your friendly neighbourhood pirate. :imanangel:
