      /fiction contd

      about my wife

You see, sometimes in order to understand someone’s personality, we need to understand where he/she comes from.

My wife is not a total mummy monster all the time, but somehow it is these episodes that I remember.

      Anyway

My wife had a bad childhood.

She is the only child from a single parent family whose parents had her out of wedlock and then later got married and then later divorced.

During these formative years, her life was mostly negative. Her father had frequent quarrels with her mother and stayed out drinking frequently. Her mother had to hold down a job sewing, and various factory outsourcing - e.g. packing and soldering electronics in order to keep the family going. Her home life was chaotic. Her father left the home permanently when she was 12. He did not return.

Her mother was depressed and often threatened her with suicide if she did not do well in her studies. Wife did well enough to get into CHIJ St Nicholas, later on Hwa Chong JC, and later on NUS under a civil service scholarship. We met during her final year in NUS. She had dropped her wallet and I had completed work near Kent Ridge. I loaned her my ezlink card in order to her to get home. She called me several days later to return my ezlink card…

I guess we were attracted to each other. She liked my gentle, unassuming ways, I was even tempered and she always says I am honest and reliable. I enjoyed her as she was the life of the party and liked to do fun and adventurous stuff.

We got married in 3 years. Wife wanted to push me to get married fast. I wasn’t so sure…but I asked myself if I wanted to live life with her or without her and so I proposed.

There are some values that she picked up along the way…not always positive. It was the upbringing. I’ll give you an example…

      1) in order to succeed, you must have more education which means more money (because her mother was uneducated and thus, poor(er)

      2) the person who has more money has more say (indirectly linked to education) (mother)

      2) you can’t really trust a man 100%, you need your own job (mother again)

      3) you got to manage your man, or else he’ll run away and do all sorts of things like fooling around (mother again!)

      4) if you don’t do what I ask you, I shall either throw tantrums or threaten to kill myself or divorce you, or …whatever (mother AGAIN!)

and she thinks she’s not going to be like her mother, but somehow, she’s just…like…her. I haven’t dared to tell her yet.

I swear, my mother-in-law and father-in-law were really messed up. They have a lot to answer for…

      /to be contd

my god, i must be a bad wife too..

when i first read the story i actually tot it was talking abt u...and was like woa....but after reading on and the conversation then realise it's actually a story u make up..

but it's really nice...waiting for the next con't...

i earn slightly more then my hubby too...and i can personally feels on the strain...esp when i don't want to earn so much and expect him to catch up with my pay...thinking he had the protential but not puting in so much effort only..but to him he's happy just being this way..
actually maybe he's happy this way. not everyone is uncomfortable with their wife earning more than them. It depends on upbringing. Some of us are like old fashioned and model our relationships after our parents, good or bad. E.g. the old model of father work, mother stay at home still somehow stays with us.

it also depends on the industry, sadly. Crane drivers earned up to 10k previously, now no. If you're someone like a nurse, you're recession proof and would have a guaranteed increment plus bonus every year compared to e.g. corporate where you have the risk of being replaced by someone from outside.

just read ur latest episode… yes i do agree her exp in childhood made her who she is today… typically kind of woman who strives to get rid of the "vicious cycle" that she may be caught if she dun…

cant blame her everything… her initiations are right, but the means may be too extreme…

it would be....as long as I want it to be?
