even w/o psle, KSP will still be KSP…

w/o psle still have o levels… being KSP, we will not ask our kids to go for tuition only when it is near o levels… tat will be too late… so no matter what, having psle or not will not change the situation better…

for those parents who expects less, yes they will quit tuition and enrichment, but that will be minority…

I think tuition should be the right and proven path to excel. I am consolidating A level tutors list for my son who is in sec 1 now. Do you happen to know of any?

So what I would ask is for MOE to review what's really the purpose of PSLE? Is it healthy to have the best of the best students for the Top 10 schools to be bundled up together? Is it not elitist to have schools where there are no \"slower\" students? Why? Why must top students only be among themselves? How do we teach these students to have compassion for \"slower\" people? How else do they learn to be more understanding of people who are less academic than they are, who have different abilities & intelligences? Must we already have such segregation at Secondary level? That's what the PSLE is supporting. That's what I have issues with.

To understand, one needs to look at what is 精英政治:

In other words, Singapore will never be democratic, am I right? concern2?[/quote]I won't be so conclusive about this. Demo or no, it really depends. Some say commies not demo, but in many ways, they are more demo than us - including the demonstrations Their 'educated people' 知识分子 are really 'educated' in the sense that they could talk about a range of subject matters, be critical and analytical, very different from our system which tends to 'train' more than educate, and producing a population that is more \"hearsay\" and less independent in thinking.

Initially kiasuism lead us to book tuition for my ds at begining of sec 1. But later when he gets busy with school homework, CCA and projects time become limited and going for tuition has become secondary or unimportant. So we quit tuition to save up time for him to focus more on school work. yah,…it has been a year and everything goes on well without tuition! So be dare to "quit that tuition!" and try it out. Believe me, you will most enjoy $$$ saving.

I have also intended to start my ds sec 1 next year without tuition. I think for sec 1, we have the luxury to at least try it out. PSLE has indeed generated many tuition for the kids.

Actually not every child or his parents want to aim for top sec schools. We just want a good sec school. However, not knowing which sec school the child will be posted to or end up, pushes all the wrong buttons.

If there are more affiliated secondary schools, it takes some steam off. Eg MGS, they don't produce top students even though all cards are in their favor. On the whole, their students still do very well and have a more rounded education.

The main stress of PSLE for many of us is secondary school placement.
:goodpost: this is the main issue here.
                        Secondary school placement.

My son is not good in sports or singing...so DSA is OUT !
Neither is he fantastic academically, so that is also OUT. In the meantime, I am hoping he wakes up one morning one of these days :rotflmao: and shoots for the stars. I am all for the 'traditional route' ie O levels.
