:scared: Wah... its888me, your dc's teachers very on ! Still have to conduct lessons on Saturday ?!
Janet,janet_lee88:
For Math, it is about practice, so I think the tutor is doing ok. As for science, tutor gives one paper but due the next week. I personally do not pump my son with past year papers. Chinese and English, he focuses mainly on those weak areas. I've been monitoring the work given by the tutors...always believe in quality.
Next Wednesday, I was told there will be a briefing in school.
I kept him at home bcos of the crazy pumping of past year papers, classmates shooting rubber bands and being hit by rackets during PE
At least your child still has PE class. Mine, all PE lessons were cancelled for the whole month and used for lessons. Everyday supplementary classes still not enough.... Sat still need to go to school from 8am to 12:45pm for supplementary. The supp classes still continues next week.... hope this thing will be ending soon.
Hope your child has sufficient rest. -

I do not think it's over-reacting. The teacher even called me several times telling me my child is not doing the best. I thought it's only my child. I learnt only yesterday that she is telling the whole class the same thing. It is one of the best classes with T-score already 26X. She also told them PSLE is the ONLY exam that decides their future.... ?! I hope it's either my child misunderstood the message or the teacher didn't convey the message in the right way. Anyway!
I think most schools will push the kids hard in P6, not just your boy's school. The schools will try to stretch them as much as possible & use reward system to motivate them. I also use \"carrot\" to motivate my boy during this period of time. Whereas for my boy's school, the principal told them that P6 classes with great improvement will get to go to the Universal Studio or BBQ after PSLE.BeContented:
I'm not sure why school is scaring the children as if PSLE is like the end of the world if they do not do well. They also attempted to reward them telling them if they improve by XX marks, they will get some materialistic thing. My child told me they are getting more scared. The school and staff must have some KPI to meet. Do they know that doing so may have the opposite effect?! Is that the right thing to do!?!!
Errrrmmmm. Are we over-reacting? I think the intention is to give them some motivation to look forward to, I dun think we should always lump it with trying to meet their KPI. If i am a teacher, i can jolly well dun waste my own money cos we all know that parents & their tutors will be pushing hard for good results anyway......
Maybe it's me, I dun quite understand. :scratchhead: I do that sometimes & some of my kids' teachers as well eg. if they get certain award during competition & the whole team will get a treat to pizza. My kids do not tell me they are scared, in fact they looked forward to it.
I would reason with my kids that as teachers, they will be proud when their students do well. Similarly, as parents, we will be proud when our children do well. Intention the same. Importantly, we, the parents should be calming our kids down & assuring them that we still will love & accept them whatever the result is. -
I personally think that PSLE is quite important. P6 Students nowadays have too much stress. My child is always bringing home many sets of revision papers from school and do until late at night. Teachers may be helping them but can also be tiring them out.(My personal views)
And, my child's tutor is also giving him homework but at least not too much. Teachers know that students need to get high marks for PSLE so they are giving the kids many worksheets to do.
I personally just think that they are not helping the kids. Doing more of the papers means going through faster after they do. The kids will not be able to learn anything.

Since the school has already given so many sets of revision papers, you might want to ask the tutor not to give him homework. It is quality that counts, not quantity. Better to focus on his weaker areas. Schools are not able to do so, the class size is too big for the teachers to give individual attention.I personally think that PSLE is quite important. My boy just have fever. I think the school hours is too long (supplementary lesson till 5.30pm) & he does not have enough sleep (too much homework to clear) Have to let him stay at home next week to get sufficient rest.

You might want to let your child stay at home next week to do self revision & get sufficient rest. Don't give the child so much stress at this very last minutes.
