      To Aspring:

She didn’t specifically ask for amount, she just say any amount. So since I am not expecting her to return the money back and for the past 6-7 years she did relieve a lot of my burden , I decided to send her 1-month-salary amount for her 14 months child as a "ang Pow" la. I didn’t tell her that it is a ang pow. Anyway… since it is Dec, So…here goes the Xmas present or a charity cause la.

        Dear all,

for those whose maids say " father mother pass away" want to go back are usually use this as excuse. As someone says if the father mother already passed away, the maid goes back also cannot help .

I once had a maid who just came to work for me about 5 or 6 months and her husband passed away in a car accident. She didnt tell me her husband passed away but I found her sobbing in the morning so I asked her. She told me the husband has passed away few days ago and the family didnt even dare to call and inform her. It is only when she tried to call the husband with her handphone but to no avail and the husband failed to sms her for the past few days then she called her own family to find out.

So I guess she has to go back so I asked her when she wanted to go back. Her reply is "person already died, go back what is the use?!". She chose to finish her work and earn the money. Also, at least when she is working, she keeps herself busy.

So…, the real scenario or the "know how to think" maid will act that way.

I also experience where maid without handphone can came to tell me that their father mother sicked so they need to go back. Asked how they knew, they replied got bad dream about the father mother sicked. Or they will ask to call home then after few days, they told you they dreamed that father mother sicked!

Wow, those maids have ESP, that's why they can foretell the future.

Hmmm, ask them next time what 4D number will come out FIRST prize...

          wahahaha, just joking :rotflmao:

            Just an update.

I think after hinting and waiting for us to lend her the money for the tickets to no avail, my maid she decided not to go back afterall. Said she will stay to repay loan. I am prepared for her to leave after she has paid up her loan. Can icancel her work permit then?

My husband still treated her really nice. Still helped her do partial housework. The more I think about it, the more I think is a hoax. I am going to throw her more housework to do, just to ‘keep her busy’. I am helping her, right? I just don’t want her to think she managed to get away with the lie.

              Hi hi,

Look what I have found. I don't know if this will be useful for other employers.

              https://www.ecensus.com.ph/Secure/frmIndex.asp

US$20 to obtain a death certificate.

              ------------

I actually told maid this morning that the female boss of teh agency is my good friend. And she sms-ed me last night (I checked with her if the male agent told her about the death certificate) saying that there are many cheaters now, claiming deaths of mothers and fathers, so they now want the death certificate as proof. I asked maid to get the sister to send her a copy. On top of that, I told her that should she be unable to get it, I have a Filipino friend (this is true) whose relative is working for National Statistics Office in the Philippines so she will be able to help me obtain too.

The moment I mentioned death certificate (she gave me the crying look) and the moment I mention cheaters, she looked away for a while. Body language that she's lying.

Now I shall wait to see the death certificate. If she can really produce a genuine one, then I will prove her innocent.

              Guilty unless proven.

wah this is really a useful thread. By the way, do anyone know what is the current market rate for Indonesia maid experience. I’m currently paying my maid S$330. Her contract is ending in March and she wants to go extend but wants to be pay current experience salary which she indicate is S$380 to $400.

I have my maid for 4 years already and do not really want to go through the hassle of training her again. She is looking after my mum (alone) and although she is not perfect, she is honest and knows how to take care of my dementia and disabled mum.

                  Hi Kahlan1003,

My maid's contract is also ending in March. She is from Indo too. Currently we are paying her $350 w/o 0ff day. She had 1 yr of experience b4 we employed her.

Don't quite know what is the market rate but DH mentioned that if she renews with the same conditions, he will consider increasing the salary by $20 because yes, she's been a good maid as well ....

                      MMM:
                      autumnbronze:

[We need to start off with her on the rite foot. The reply I got was, \"you know I'm a pple's person rite, how can you expect me to be what I am not in my own home??

Is your hubby a HR person

In any case, it's very very important to lay the ground rules and from day 1. We usually do this with our maid. Our hubby (aka the bad guy) will tell her the ground rules eg. no handphone, no stealing, no lying, no ill treatment/ beating of kids, etc...\" These are basic stuff and if she is guilty of those, then too bad, we got to send her back. On our end, we will of course do our part by giving her sufficient rest, food, respect,etc.... I feel that it's like towards children, sometimes you need a good and bad guy. Hubby lets me play the \"good guy\" but of course I've my limit/ threshold. So maybe your hubby can be the \"people person\" while you are the \"task oriented\" role? FYI, my hubby would be the one who would check, lock her luggage and keep the keys, when my maid goes back on home leave. He would be the one to \"reprimand\" the maid if she does something wrong/ things that don't go through thinking process.

When my maid asked me about having hp to \"keep in touch\" with her family after she came back from home leave. She was on the edge of \"tearing\" (I think I am not the give in to tears type), to me it's like that's the ground rule we laid from day one and no way I am going to say yes to her. I told her outfront what I thought and yes, I am being proactive because I don't want to come back and deal with this as a problem few months down the road. I hate to do that and she would hate me to do that. So to prevent that, then it's still a no.

                      Hi MMM,

Nope, DH not in HR, but his job entails him to deal with pple and mediation is part of the job. 😄

Initially started as me being the bad guy, because I can be THE bad one... But then DH being pple person, was so nice and I thought better stand united than using that strategy. Also because she deals with DS, don't want her to hate me and take it out on him ...

So now, basically, if there is anything to reprimand, we do together by having a talk with her. DH taught me one thing - As a 'confronter' must always find the rite time and mood of the 'confrontee' b4 confronting, so that you catch the person unawares, leave the person no time to ponder for excuses and deal with the matter effectively. 😉

Patience is a virtue ..... esp when you are v v annoyed with something that she had done .... 🙏

She gets 2 days off a month.
