      Hi all,

This may be a little offtrack...but does anyone have any idea how to \"potty train\" the child to be dry in the night? My 5 year old is still on pull-ups in the night!

        Hi Andaiz,

I was in the same situation a few months ago. My DD2 at 3 was already off diapers at night while DD1 at 5 still needed diapers. 😐 For DD2, it just happened naturally without any training 😎

A friend shared that her son only managed to be off diapers completely by 6. She bought an inflatable bed and let him sleep on it during \"training\". If he happens to wet his bed, he will just hv to wake up himself, clean the bed ( quite easy cos inflatable is made of rubber/ plastic), put on a new sheet before he could sleep again. 😒 In less than 2 weeks, he was able to wake up to pee by himself. Guess he realise the hassle of the cleaning.. waking up to pee was an easier option πŸ˜„

For my case, i used the reward chart. Told her if her pants are dry in the morning, she gets a sticker. Every 10 stickers, she gets a reward. Put up a similar chart for DD2 as well. Initially, only DD2 gets the sticker since she was already ok in the 1st place. DD1 was upset as she had less stickers than mei mei, so no reward 😒

She sort of buck up and she woke up dry on more mornings. Then we stop using pull ups for her gradually. Within a month or so, she is completely off diapers and she wakes up by herself to go wee wee if she needs to.

Of cos, there are times when she is too tired and oversleeps... 😞 But i guess this is part of the process... As of now, the frequency of such bed wetting has dropped tremendously πŸ˜‰

Every child is different.. so you may like to try out these 2 methods to see if it suits yours. :celebrate:

          too late for me.... 😐

he likes to sit facing in so every time need to take his shorts off....and cos he is afraid of the dark, he'll sit on the bowl and shouts 'it's dark in here' everytime he goes to the toilet'
          Hi jedamum,

Just curious ... have you tried re-educating him??

I know there will be resistence, but thru persistence and consistency .... and some creative strategy, wouldn't he come ard.

I make a big thing when he does his p and p in the bathroom ... I clap and cheer and wolf whistle cuz he likes the attention... that kind of encourages him. The sticker/reward method didn't work (maybe too young). πŸ˜„

            Hi Poohbear,

Oh the method above sounds good. Will keep that in mind for the future.

And yes, I do agree that evry child is different.... when it comes to toilet training.

Thanks Poohbear - mine sleeps through the wee! So it's quite painful.
Will try the \"clean up after yourself\" bit. My #1 we trained while overseas - we bought these Pampers Nighttime bedspread so it doesn't get to the mattress.

Tried the sticker reward bit as well...yes you are right. Each child is an individual. πŸ™ I'd try again after this xmas/school start thingy - don't want to stress her

                Hi parents,

My 3.5 year old DS has no problem when it comes to peeing in the toilet since he’s 2+ yr old.
He can go on his own when the need arises and also take a nap without using diapers.
however, he has this problem when it comes to poo. He will always insist that we put a diaper for him, then go wandering around in the bedroom before the poo is out. meaning that he’s been passing his motion mostly in a standing position. i’ve tried asking him to try sitting on the potty (both with and without diapers on) and even squatting, but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone have such experience before with your DC? how do they eventually overcome this? any pointers/suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks so much!

                  Hi Tanglin,

If he needs to poo in the standing position, then it’s probably a matter of which muscles to use. Perhaps he finds it hard to use the right muscles to push the stools out when he’s sitting down. If he’s using a toilet seat, you can give him a stool to rest his feet on so that he has something to push against. Other things you can try is to massage his stomach and back while he’s sitting on the potty. Once he experiences success in the sitting position, he will be fine.

                    Hi Deminc,

Thanks for your advice. i think you're right cos my boy is the kind who doesn't know(or doesn't like?) how to exert strength.

seems that we will just have to keep on trying till he gets it. Thanks again! πŸ˜„

Had some success with the Toilet Training...but the only problem is when they suddenly want to go when driving!

Some parents have told me to keep a pull-up diaper in the car, so that they can pee in it, when the need arises.

Keen of funny though when, they really need to go...and there is no outlet.

Recently, my son had quite a fiasco with this.

My DD is fully toilet trained in the day, but wears training pants to sleep at night. I'm thinking of letting her go diaper-free at nite but not sure if she is ready. How to tell if she is ready at nite? Appreciate any advice and suggestion. :thankyou:
