Wow! maids are getting smarter these days. Feign deaths and what else Sigh! My lecturer’s maid know how to surf net and email. I don’t think there’s any privacy if she can access all our documents in the computer.

      Hi Autumbronze,
Was recently looking for maids and so discovered that currently indo maids with experience in Malaysia is asking for $350 with no off day. New maids $330. Hope you will find this information useful.

Actually pretty maids are dangerous. I have to agree after some of the mummies highlighted in this forum. I must have been "blind". It also never cross my mind, don’t know why? When you have a pretty maid, you will encounter the following.

      1) She will spend a longer time in bathroom.

      2) Her hair is so long, she needs a longer time to dry it and that means she wants to use your hairdryer!!

      3) Because she knows she is pretty, she takes extra care of her own face. She applys sunscreen before leaving the house. At night, she applys all sort of cream on her face.

      4) Because she likes to look pretty, she tries to follow the fashion trend and do rebonding. We all know rebonding cannot tie hair right? It will leave a mark on the straight hair. So she won’t tie her hair while doing housework.

      5) She puts on her makeup and nail polish on her off days. Ok, this part we have no control because its her off day BUT hubby is in the house!! I saw her and said "WOW" silently, what will the husband say?? Although my hubby says never mind, its only normal for young girl wanting to look pretty as long as she don’t do anything funny in the house, leave her alone. But after seeing what the rest of the mummies commented, I m getting a little concerned!

This is speaking from real experience! But luckily she’s quite fearful of me because I don’t speak to her unless its necessarily.

wah this is really a useful thread. By the way, do anyone know what is the current market rate for Indonesia maid experience. I'm currently paying my maid S$330. Her contract is ending in March and she wants to go extend but wants to be pay current experience salary which she indicate is S$380 to $400.

I have my maid for 4 years already and do not really want to go through the hassle of training her again. She is looking after my mum (alone) and although she is not perfect, she is honest and knows how to take care of my dementia and disabled mum.
        Hi your maid is right.
Current market rate is about $380 to $400 ( experienced )

If I am you,I will give her an increase since she has been with me for a long time.
Saves the hassle of re-training and she knows everyone well.
        Just my thoughts:-)

          Hi peapot,

I don’t allow my maid to apply nail polish, no off days and no long hair.
This saves me a lot of trouble 🙂

            Hi Kiasimom,

Do you put this rule in writing? Because it never occur to me that she will ignore my rule of no long hair even after I told her. I let her be because I changing a new maid soon. But she taught me a lesson. In future how can I make sure my new maid will adhere to this no long hair rule?

                Hi Kiasimom,

Is it possible or do you mind to share with me your rules? I thought of incorporating it with mine. Also, do you go through the rules yearly? I mean in the office, they always go through the IT policy with us yearly. So maybe we should practise that at home too.

                    Hi there peapot,

In addition, kiasimom has also another (quite similar) set of rules.

                    kiasimom:
I have a set of house rules for my maid.

                    1. Never Lie
                    2. Never steal
                    3. To return to mom/sir any money found in the house or pockets of laundry
                    4. No using of house phone without permission
                    5. Must wear bra
                    6. Wear tops with sleeves only
                    7. No going out of the house without mom/sir permission
                    8. No using of kid's items
                    9. Hand wash her own clothes and put them in a seperate pail
I have one pail specially for her
                    10. No giving out of house number to anyone without mom/sir permission
                    11. Never ask for a loan from sir/mom
                    12. Not allowed to enter sir/mom room without permission
Like you, starting to get rules written down and signed off for this new one.
                    :celebrate: All the best!

I also set House Rules (as part of our Agreement) before she join us. I make both the Maid Agency & the Maid sign on the paper just in case she call up the agency or embassy to complain about us.

My previous maids taught me a lesson. They gladly took me for granted after 1/2yr stay with us. Once bitten twice shy.

I agree i too never set a set of rules and I’m not really good at rebuking people.

In future if i have a maid i will use those rules i found here.
