In addition, kiasimom has also another (quite similar) set of rules.

kiasimom:

I have a set of house rules for my maid.

1. Never Lie
2. Never steal
3. To return to mom/sir any money found in the house or pockets of laundry
4. No using of house phone without permission
5. Must wear bra
6. Wear tops with sleeves only
7. No going out of the house without mom/sir permission
8. No using of kid's items
9. Hand wash her own clothes and put them in a seperate pail
I have one pail specially for her
10. No giving out of house number to anyone without mom/sir permission
11. Never ask for a loan from sir/mom
12. Not allowed to enter sir/mom room without permission

Like you, starting to get rules written down and signed off for this new one.

I also set House Rules (as part of our Agreement) before she join us. I make both the Maid Agency & the Maid sign on the paper just in case she call up the agency or embassy to complain about us.


My previous maids taught me a lesson. They gladly took me for granted after 1/2yr stay with us. Once bitten twice shy.

I agree i too never set a set of rules and I’m not really good at rebuking people.


In future if i have a maid i will use those rules i found here.

Thanks Andaiz for sharing. Actually after looking through Tamarind’s rules, I realise my maid only adhere to 8 out of the 33 rules. New maid come will need more work!!

Just treat your maid like your employee.

Take it as a pure employer-employee relationship.

Don’t need to be too nice to her or she will become HRH :x
However, do give her compliments if she does well. All humans need encouragement.

Do make sure you spent time going through the house rules with her on her first day. Make her sign on it.
Orientate her around the house.
Offer her help when she asked for it during her first month and assure her that you won’t lecture her.
This is her probation period
I will give her a timetable to follow and will show her how to use the appliances.

I think as long as we do our part to let her settle down comfortably and confidently, those rules are the lights to her path

So far no maid agency refuse to sign the agreement.

If they want your business, I think they will sign.

As long as the rules are humane and reasonable, I see no reason why the maid and the agency refuse to sign.


They make me sign a form stating what housework I will assign to her, who she will sleep with…etc etc

I did not complain so why should they refuse to sign??? :x

Agree with your suggestions. But there are some maids that take a longer time to settle down ie like 3 mths or so due to homesickness etc... even as we try to help them settle down.

I guess if their work attitude is good and they don't give problems, then employers should also cut some slack rite??

I am only highlighting this cuz it happened to my maid ....

Yes, I will cut some slack if the maid is very positive and humble.
If she is hardworking but may take a longer time to learn and adapt, I will of course accept and allow her more time to learn.

A hardworking , honest, humble maid is hard to come by and even if she is slower, I don't mind.
Different people have different ability.

As long as she has a positive character, I don't mind if she takes a longer time :celebrate:
