If you are good, I will come to you even if you reside in a forest. Hence, location is not a problem but rather do you have the necessary skills to impart and deliver your teachings to kids?

      All the best.
Ah thanks for the input newkeynesian. You make going to good centers sound like a pilgrimage 😄 Yes the skill of the tutors and their heart to teach will be most important. They need to be very carefully assessed.

        I have a child gg to P1.

To me location does not matter.
The most important thing is good materials and qualified teachers.

Do update your thread when you set up yr ctr 🙂

        Good luck
Thanks PaynPaydad, will bear in mind to post! Shall extend discount to you too if you want to enroll, so you need not keep paying and paying so much 😂

By Qualified teachers do you have any requirements in particular, like being an Ex MOE teacher?

I find that teachers who are dedicated, patient and has passion to teach will one of the criteria. The centre also must have their own materials and not just phto copy work sheets from assessment books. Some centres just phto copy the work sheets from assessment books and they don't provide notes too.

            - location

            - price
            - teachers
            - management of the ctr
            - flexibility in chaining schedules or make up lesson policy
            - materials
            - notes for parents/ review of child’s progression or weakness

All the above are impt to me but each on its own may not have enough weightage to make/change my decision to sign up/ continue/ terminate the lessons. And they are not listed in terms of priority ( I just type whatever that comes into my mind).

The most impt to me is probably how well the teacher can connect to my child, whether my child grab what the teacher is saying.

Is a tuition centre (for group tuition) better or tutor who go to your house better?

I am trying to find out more about the experience of parents in hiring tutors through agencies/friends in order to improve it.

What annoys you the most throughout the process of searching for and hiring a private tutor?

Please share any bad/good experiences 😃

What annoys me most is that the agency will paint such a good pix of tutor - in terms of experience, blah, blah but never tell me that the tutor has attitude problem.

Tuition agencies are like maid agencies - out to make easy $$$ from parents.

tuition agencies may not be aware of tutors having attitude problems.

tutors may paint themselves to be very professional to get a client, giving the impression they are reliable and good with kids. it’s scary but no choice because parents may not have the time to ferry kids to centres.
wanted to send my kids to british council but the timings available doesn’t fit their schedule…besides, I am not sure if daughter can fit into class setting as she is academically slow.
