Anyone engage a shadow teacher before? I’m thinking of getting one to follow My son to school & prompt him to initiate contact with his friends.

No I didn't although I am tempted. But a shadow teacher is expensive. -

My boy is now in K2. Similarly to a few of the kids here, other kids tend to want to make friends with him since N1, but he seemed aloof. We still thought that he was acting cool! LOL! It is only in the middle of K1 that he started talking about having friends in school, and even had a girlfriend (ok, they broke off :p). Now, the teacher still says that he still prefers to be alone at times.Mummies with older kids (say above 5 years old)
When did your kid start to socialise with other children? My boy can socialise with adults but not children.
Do your kids have friends in school? or still a loner? -

I wanted to and enquired...but we can't afford. It's about $40 per hour or about $5K per month!!!Blokus:

If the shadow teacher is just to prompt him to initiate contact, IMO there's no need for that. Some pp just are aloof. If he doesn't want to make friends now, let him be. How many of us still have friends from kindy anyway? If the shadow teacher is to do more than that like getting him to concentrate on his tasks, keep up the sch work etc, then I think it's more appropriate.
I think not having friends is better than having bad friends. -
Yah good point mashy! I was adviced to engage a shadow teacher because I wanted him to follow up on what he learnt at wee care. Initially I felt there wasn’t any need but still feel kan Chong that he’s not interacting or applying what he was taught. So now thinking to hire shadow teacher to help him. But then school is usually about learning and limited play time like 10-15 mins. I can’t think when the shadow teacher can come in. He can focus, do the task, act on instructions etc. So I guess to hire a shadow teacher just for interaction is abit of a waste of money hor?
