Ready2WORK:
Can you explain that? Because I think Jun Min was studying, then his friends came, so if \"all day\" is removed, it should still be 2. :? :scratchhead:

if no \"all day\", the ans would be 1) was studying.verykiasumummy:
No. Had (verb) is past perfect tense, which is used when there is a sequence of events in the past. So, Jun Min was studying in his room, then his friends asked him to join the for a game of soccer. As Jun Min was studying first, the answer is still 2.
a similar question in my dd's sa1 paper states that.
if \"all day\" is being removed, it means Jun Min (past continuous action) when his friends came. so it is not a sequence of events happening before the friends came. should not use \"had been\" -

Hi Studious Alien,
May I know why you chose answer A and not answer B?
Thanks -
Thank you for your help. I think I posted at the wrong thread n yet you still replied so promptly.

superksmum:
The rule for lest is that you always use the base form as given in the question as your answer in the question even if it is past tense (the example given by you).Hi Studious Alien,
May I know why you chose answer A and not answer B?
Thanks -

ximinful:
I took \"a number\" as a collective term. Why can't it be \"has\"?
Plural use have, singular use has .Except for \"I\"
a number of break-ins means that there is definitely more than one. so plural. thanksRobertpattinsonidle:
A number of break-ins has/have happened..
