          newtosing:
          Hi,

We have a 23 month old who is currently in daycare but am trying to decide on preschool in January, the year he turns 3. Our current top choice is Little House Montessori; we were struck by the calm and disciplined, the diversity of the students, the dedication of the principal, and the non-air conditioned space, and the patient teachers. However, based on the posts in this thread, we visited Early Years Montessori, and we noticed all the same things, except the facility was a bit older and run down. I also *think* I like how they separate N1 from the other ages intiially for more individual attn to the youngest students. Anyhow, I just can't get over how \"tired\" looking the place looks...of course asthetics is not the most important criteria, but I think aesthetics brighten both kids' and teachers'/adults' moods....

Can others who have tried to choose between these 2 schools pls weigh in? I'd particularly like to hear more from parents of of students enrolled in Little House, and why they chose it. Many Thanks!

Oh and yes, some feedback on other Sunset way pre-schools in IMHO:
-Playdays is nice, but they only \"play\" and it's super expensive.
-Brighton Montessori has NO outdoor space. Enough said.
HI mummies anymore feedback on EYM as I will be registering my girl for next year's intake for N1 soon. Seeing more good reviews/feedback on EYM is always very assuring 🙂

Reason for chosing EYM is because having seen my 2 elder kids attending main stream CC I still have to send them out for enrichment class (montessori phonics - to learn how to read) 😞 and I really see the beauty of montessori phonics and have heard rave reviews on montessori math as well. Thus by placing 3rd baby into a montessori school I really hope the school will do a good job and on my end I can save some cost on enrichment class (fingers and toes crossed) :xedfingers: :xedfingers:

Hubby and I had gone down to the school for viewing...we were totally taken aback by the calmness of the school...so so different from mainstream CC, the students there looked so discipline and independent....and all of them knew what to do (did not see any child walking aimlessly... all of them looked like \"little adults\"

we were asked to be seated at a corner of the classroom to observe how the children work with their materials... not long after one of the students walked up to us and served us a cup of water...(cannot imagine my little one doing all these...she is so rough hahaha)...
oh and the best part was whenever I call up the school to fix an appointment with the principal Ms Fee, my call was always answered by one of the students in the school and it's so heartwarming to hear these little kids taking down ur messages.... :rahrah: :rahrah:
This school really teaches the students real life skills....

Outdoor area was also cool....they have a big play area as well...

Does the school look run down?? IMO not at all....it has a very homely kind of setting instead....it is by far the best montessori school I have ever been...hope my girl will love her school and hope mummy's decision is not wrong too.

However the con side...school bus fee is rather steep.... :nunchuk:

Sharing my experience at Agape @ Clementi (Playgroup)

My child is enjoying herself there and I am able to see her grow independantly. Within a few months, she is able to sing songs and identify items both in English and Mandarin.

The teachers are all very caring and extremely patience. One thing I like about the techers are the way they encourage the kids to take on new challenges. Simple things like painting or using a crayon to color within the lines.

The teachers are always smiling and the children in school are very well behaved.
The surrounding is big open spaces with plenty of toys and educational items.
The air con is not too cold and they are able to control it unlike other centers where it is controlled by the building.

Overall, a good choice in my opinion.

This reminds me of a mother's day tea that was organised last year (i think). All the children (including N2s) served their mummies tea. They carried the china teacups and saucers filled with tea on a tray from the kitchen to the tables where we sat. I think all the moms were holding our collective breath as our children walked out. But there were no accidents and they were wonderfully proud of themselves .

My DS is in Primary 1 now and has adjusted well to primary school. I think the Montessori education gave him a good grounding in english, math and chinese, so the academic aspect of school has been quite painless, thank goodness! He's also been back to EYM to do a show and tell of what primary 1 life is like for the K2 kids.
