Tomorrow is the Beach Cleaning Day for all Y1s.
Is this an international event or islandwide event? All sec sch students are cleaning up the beach? -
friendship:
hello the ICCS is an international event that RGS participates in, but is not a nation-wide thing- other schools can choose to participate in it, or have their students go for another type of CIP.Tomorrow is the Beach Cleaning Day for all Y1s.

VALyap:
The school's authority has the best interest towards all students. What was decided must not be any easy decision cause she consistently scores very high GPA ( she is definitely NOT under performing, in fact she has high GPA) .Am sure it was very much deliberated for best interest for her health at that time. Respect the school..
Please do respect the school's decisions- as for retention, as a sec 3 student, I can say that there is barely anyone who is retained, since the minimum criteria for promotion is just a 2.0 for english and a passing grade in philosophy (sec 2 and 4). the case mentioned was definitely an exception and in my three years here i've barely heard of any such cases -
(change topic ...)
Are there many activities scheduled during the June/Dec holidays? Just wondering if it is possible to go on family trips that last more than 10 days after dd enters sec sch.
If not then we'll just settle for shorter trips (save :moneyflies: , ha!). -
depends on CCA yr dd joins. Some CCA requires to go back to sch for sort of training, camping, etc
-
Yes, friendship is right.
Between the 2 CCAs DD has, one has no activities planned for the year-end hols.
The other, a sports, has a camp lined up as well as training sessions throughout the whole hols. That’s because the girls need to prepare for next year’s inter-schools competitions. However, need no worry - can still go for hols. All DD does is to inform the person-in-charge of the days we’ll be away. -
:thankyou: friendship & MummySTay !

Hello.
Thinking of engaging a chem tutor for my dd next yr. any school or tutors to recommend who are familiar with RGS IP curriculum?
Thank you -
Dear parents,
I'm Tang Xin Ning, an old girl from RGS (batch of '06), and a student from NTU majoring in Linguistics & Multilingual Studies. Currently, I'm doing a research study investigating how the school a student is from may influence his/her language.
As such, I need 3 Secondary 3 students, and 3 Secondary 4 students from RGS to participate in this study. I am here to appeal to parents of current RGS Sec 3 and 4 girls, to consent to your child's participation in my study.
The procedure is really simple and would only take 10 minutes: the participant will first be asked to read a short story aloud, after which she will be asked to give directions in a particular scenario. She will be audio-recorded in both tasks. Following which, she will be asked to fill in a short survey with her personal particulars, as well as details of his/her language use. Each participant will remain anonymous and all data collected will remain confidential. The recording will be done in a quiet environment. Should you agree to let your child participate, I would gladly accommodate her/your schedule and meet her at any convenient location (or just outside RGS) and timing to record her. I understand that it's Term 4 and students would be very busy right now, so I will try to minimize any disruption to their schedule.
Would any kind parents be willing to let your child participate, pretty please? I would really x 10000 appreciate your help in this, as this project is for my thesis.
Please? If you're interested, please drop me a private message asap! And if you have any concerns or queries about me, the research study, or anything, before you consider consenting, I'd be very happy to answer them.
And to everyone: Thank you so much for reading through this! I sincerely apologize for the long post.
P.S. If it helps, since I'm a relatively recent graduate of RGS and RI (JC) I can also try to help and answer any questions regarding the school, if anyone needs a student's perspective? -
slmkhoo:
Yes. I agree. Everyone has their own abilities, strengths and passion. Hence, everyone's 'mountain' is different. Hence, one's perspective of a summit may not be the same for another. For example, getting a presidential scholarship is a summit or an aim for one but perhaps just getting a job she enjoys if a summit or an ultimate goal for another. It all depends. I strongly believe all RGS will succeed in their own way and reached that summit of theirs! :rahrah:friendship:
out of about 30,000 climbers most probably only 5 can make it to the summit. Only 5 got the President Scholarship out of about 30,000 co-hort.
Every person doesn't need to aim for the same mountain top. My mountain top right now is to coach my older girl (not the one who got into RGS) in 'O' level maths! I don't need her to be a PS, just grasp 'O' level E maths is enough for now. And even for my daughter who will be in RGS, I don't ask her to be a PS, just to find her own (realistic) 'mountain' and do her best.
