      Hi mathsguru,

      Need your help on this.

Daisy had twice as many pencils as Sulin at first. Then Rose gave 8 pencils to Sulin. After that, Rose had three times as many pencils as Sulin. If Daisy, Sulin and Rose had 134 pencils altogether, how many more pencils than Daisy did Rose have at first?

      Many thanks.

        Hi Kiasimom,

Here's my solution. To get started, try drawing 2 models representing Daisy and Sulin's pencils. Then, add on to Sulin's model by including the 8 pencils Rose gave her. From there, we can draw out Rose's model and solve accordingly. πŸ™‚

            Vikaesh:
            What is

            3a(2a - 1) - 2a(2 - 4a) = ?
in the simplest form ? [please show step-by-step working...tks]
            Hi Vikaesh,

            3a(2a - 1) - 2a(2 - 4a)
            = 3a x 2a - 3a x 1 - 2a x 2 + 2a x 4a
            = 6a^2 - 3a - 4a + 8a^2
            = 14a^2 - 7a
            = 7a(2a-1)

I believe this is lower sec maths - algebraic expansion & factorisation.

Remember that: -ve β€’ -ve = +ve. And \"simplest form\" usually requires u to factorise the expression to get the final answer. πŸ™‚

            Regards,
