Hello acforfamily, for those students learning electone - they will all need to buy electone at home? What happen to those learning both electone and piano? Can the electone be used to practise for piano exams as well? What model did you have? I am thinking of getting used electone ... any idea where I can get them?
yes, you definitely need an Electone. The mini stagea will do, cost about $2800 during year end and mid year sale. Those learning piano as well will have piano at home as well. Yes I know, sounds crazy but no choice cos the touch for piano is very different. Maybe electone is ok for the lower grades piano but definitely will not work for later.
I know someone who played electone for 1 year but gave up cos they moved away. If you want, I can check it out for you. -
acforfamily - do you mind, that’ll be a great help !!! I checked the Electone ELS-01C - gulps 13k++ with yr end sale ! Not too keen in investing in electronic products as resale price/market is low and there will always be newer version. Will this mini stagea last through JSAC or even SSAC? Is it an exam grade?

Hi radiantmum,
Have pm you.
As far as I know, none of my son’s classmates use the ELS-01C at home. We only bought the mini stagea and still using with no problem for grade 7. The kids will use the custom stagea in their individual class. It has more functions but I don’t think it is worth buying at this stage. You can use the mini for exams but somehow, the teachers always put the custom in their exam forms. So my son has been using mini for practice and custom for exams, no problems so far. -

The price now is S$12,800.

When i bought it they recommend that i get an additional floppy disc player, cos it will bring out the full potential of the Stagea since all electone sheet music comes with a disc. I have that on my ELS-01
I would like to sell it at S$9,388.00
WITH Yamaha Headset & Floppy disc player

Attended 1st JSAC group class today.
Very interesting first lesson with the class speed I find much much faster than JXC’s. They had solfege singing, minuet, mystery/horror sound "experimentation", sight reading, ensemble & "Mary had a little lamb" improvisation - - all within 1.5 hour. I am amazed that the kids have no problem understanding and absorbing them as well ! -
Hi radiantmum,
Glad to hear the positive comments about the class.
My son is feverishly preparing for his electone exam again in March. One of the things that take up most of his time is the arrangement piece. (I realised a short while back that only electone students need to do this from grade 8 onwards, the piano students don’t have to).
Basically, they have to pick a piece of music they like and prepare their own arrangement, try out the different sounds, tempo, chords etc, write it out before the exam. Finally, need to play the piece during the exam.
Definitely not easy, so do take note for next year. My son really struggled the first time cos his previous teacher did not prepare in advance. -

Hi acforfamily, when do they start taking exams & how often? Out of curiousity, how do we as parents know whether the teachers have prepared \"properly\"?Hi radiantmum,
Glad to hear the positive comments about the class.

& most importantly, GOOD LUCK to your DS !
