      Hi,

My daughter has successfully selected to enter BPGHS and St Margaret through DSA. I'm in dilemma as I do not know which school is best for her. Some opinions from my friends including BPGHS is a neighborhood school and should not consider even though it is a good school while St Margaret is a rich culture school and the school name looks good in the resume...Personally, I prefer St Margaret as it is all girls' school but my daughter prefers BPGHS as it is a band 1 school.
My daughter also received CO from BPGHS. But instead of St Margaret, she received an offer from Nan hua High. Also in delimma... But if I were you, I will choose BPGHS instead of St Margaret, as BPGHS is a band 1 sch, while St Margaret is a band 4 sch. Just my personal opinion... ... 🤷 However, my DD might not accept their offers. She wants to go for the S1 posting. :stupid:

Thank you for your advice. To be honest, I never heard of BPGHS if not for my daughter’s insistence to apply to that school. Hopefully, she makes the right choice.

          Go for BPGHS!
Its a very fine school. Doesn't matter if it's a neighbourhood sch.
Band'g of the sch has been very consistent between 1-2.
          COP 244, consider high.
It's niche is Research in Science Programme and Elective Prog. Check out its web site for full details.
O YA....it's new Principal...u kn who?....formally fr that school who consecutively produced Top O Level scholars for 4 years!!!
          Just my 2 cents worth.

Personally I will recommend BPGHS over St Margaret’s as my niece has enjoyed herself during her 4 years studying there.

Comparing the 2 schools Sec 3 exam timetable, I noticed that St Margaret’s offers subjects like Principles of Accounts, Food & Nutrition, Art, Music to students. Usually students choose these subjects either because they like them, or they are not keen with Pure Sciences. Hence students have a choice in other subjects and not forced to do Pure Sciences.

If you look at BPGHS, it does not offer all the above mentioned subjects (maybe it does but is not reflected in their timetable due to low number of candidates). However it offers subjects like Economics, Chinese Lit, Malay Lit which are not common in Sec schools.

If you child is not a Science / Maths student, i would think St Margaret’s
is a better choice for her. She can still choose from the various non-science subjects, do well in them, and go JC to do Arts or go Poly. If she wants to go BPGHS, then you may want to check with the school what subjects can your child do in Sec 3 if she doesn't want to do Pure Sciences.

If she likes Pure Sciences, then both schools are good as they do have triple science classes.

Thank you Greenbelt for your advice. My daughter is not really good in Science. I will need to call to school and find out more before my daughter put BPGH as 1st choice for the Dsa-Sec Exercise.

I thought I read somewhere that she is from CHIJ St Nicholas.

We are considering between Bukit Panjang Government High School /Swiss Cottage Secondary School/Kranji Secondary School for our son S1 Posting 2012.

Any information on subjects offering option, class size and CCA will be very helpful.

                      Thanks in advance.

Most main stream schools offer the same set of subjects in Sec 1 and 2. Schools will have different combinations when come to Sec 3.

For Bukit Panjang Government High School / Swiss Cottage Secondary School, you can find the information on Sec 3 subjects on their school website.

Kranji Secondary School does not put such info on its website. You may want to call the school to check it.
