I find that generally Indonesian FDWs (after several mionths working in English speaking family) speak English better, and more clearly than the filipino ones. That's cos they learn fast. While the filipinos, thinking that they are sooo good in English do not show any improvement. (They probably think they speak better than us :rotflmao:)

currently my MIL's Indonesian english is much better than my Phlipino. I even questioned my Phlipino maid if she understand english -

i think its a myth about Filipino helpers being better at English than other nationalities. they know English, but it doesn't mean their English is good. mine says \"cancelled\" instead of \"postponed\", and what she was saying really baffled me at first :? . And we don't speak Tagalog. At least, with the Indonesian helpers, when English doesn't work, we can try Malay. :imcool:
Actually not all filippinos are good in english. Those from rural area can't really speak. So it's a misconception that all can speak good english.... -
My Indonesian maids picked up English FAST. Not only that, they also picked up Cantonese...a dialect I use to communicate with hubby if I do not want kids or maid to know. But maid picked up Cantonese...once she gave herself away. I asked hubby something but nothing unpleasant. The maid answered on his behalf :faint: in English.

I observed that Indonesian maids are able to pick up language pretty fast. My last 2 maids were able to speak and understand mandarin by the time they leave us. I was wondering if it was because my kids were younger when they started work with us so they were learning together with them.
I wonder if the new maid will be able to pick up the language too. -

I agree with minty totally. I cannot wait for the day I can do without maid. Pay high salary and agency fees and still get problems from them. Abit like tuition, pay through your nose and yr child grades still not improving.

I am looking to be a robotic cleaner for my MIL. Her flat is facing a construction site and she is cleaning the floor up to 7 times a day using the magic kleen wipes :slapshead: . But her health is no good so we were thinking to buy her a robotic cleaner to lighten her load. My requirements are below, any recommendations or comments will be most appreciated:
1) Must be able to clean very fine dust (from construction!)
2) Must clean effectively, if not she'll end up doing it herself again (ok, from her cleaning up to 7 times a day, you can probably tell that she is extremely \"ngiao\")
3) Budget $500+ (if there is a model that is really good, we're ok to increase that) (if it;s cheap, I'll consider buying one for myself too since I'm also using the magic kleen wipes! ) -

Without a maid, the house is not squeaky clean...so what?
Have to do housework...not in the mood, don't do lor.
No need to pay $1K a month and go insane having a maid around.
