HELLO! There’s 3 weeks to O levels but I’m so scared… I keep worrying about my chances of getting into HCI because I REALLY REALLY wanna get there. I come from a notable girls’ school. My prelim 1: 16, prelim 2: 10.

      I guess I’m just a nervous wreck now X_X

I would appreciate if any HCI-ians would tell me about HCI! I’m soooo in love with HC.

Hwa Chong has a deep culture of chinese tradition…somewhat like your NYGH… and the alumni members are quite influential. I came from there… graduated many many many many many years ago! haha

          Hi,

Seeing your post reminded me of a blog I read recently from a ex Hwa Chong.

Please don't take this as a discouragement of your enthusiasm to go to the school. I just share only...

Wish u all the best in your O level...

I suggest you read this to get the perspective of \"the other side\"

              http://mypaperjournal.wordpress.com/2012/07/04/post-to-you-finally/

As a Hwa Chong almunus, while I am sympathetic towards Xinlin, I do agree with what this blogger has to say. Ultimately, you make a decision as to whether you want to listen to others and try to live up to their expectations, or simply try to do your best and live up to your own expectations of yourself. Pressure is ubiquitous - it doesn't stop at A levels, nor is it specific to Hwa Chong, and it almost certainly will follow you to university, the workplace and life in general.

I won't deny that there wasn't pressure to do well - heck my tutors used to publish ranking lists after every single test so everyone knew exactly where they stood in the class (I was from HP) but despite all that pressure, I did have a very happy 2 years in Hwa Chong. IMO, it has set me up well for university where the pressure to do well is just as intense, if not more so.

In summary, don't be put off by a single bad experience. Everyone experiences it differently (I also don't agree about the fact that we discriminate against non-IP students, but then again I was part of the majority so perhaps I felt it less strongly).

                I received L1R5 of 8

                EL - A2
                History - A1
                Combine (SS/Geog) - A1
                E. Math - A1
                A. Math - A2
                Physics - A2
                Chemistry - B3
                Cl - A1
                Hcl - B3
                CCA - A1
                nett - 4
I was considering putting vjc as my first choice. My friend suggested me to put a jc with a lower cop as my first choice and appeal if I fail. At least if I do this I will not regret it later for not trying, I want to enter HC badly. :xedfingers:
                Any suggestions or opinions? Thanks.
                :?: :?:

Unless you have something very special, e.g. some skills for some CCA (top school swimmer, top badminton player), it’s highly unlikely that HC will accept your appeal.

Hc won’t accept you unless you are damn special. Their 3 cut off is already partial.

Very hard for the man in the street. But i have heard that if you have connections, they can make exceptions. 😄

Even VJC only accepts partial 4, you may not be accepted with 4 nett. If you do not put VJC as your first choice, you will be at disadvantage when you attempts to appeal
