      hello,

I had finally selected the maid and she will be arriving in Jan.

Just wondering how to I start off with Day 1?

With the ground rules, telling her where to wash her stuff, and give her the toiletries. Introduce her to the family members…

What other "orientation" I must give her?

Haha. Ya, I have to agree that the BO thingie is a very personal issue and it really depends on the diet we eat. People with gastric and dental problems will face such problem too.

I guess we give our helper a little too much freedom and she’s abusing this. She says a bit of lies once in a while (I do that too!), but no one is perfect.

She loves her children dearly, but not her husband as he is very abusive even to her old mother and children. I do pity her actually and I know her intention of finding a ’ better husband’ in S’pore. But I told her the government here does not allow it. I consistently remind her to think of her children, to SAVE $ so that she can rebuild her home and for her children’s education.

I always believe that a HAPPY worker is very important. Maids need their own circle of friends and short breaks for herself. It ain’t easy to be alone abroad, leaving behind their family to take care of ours. My family’s conclusion is still to keep her and just act blur till her contract ends. We’re not very worried that she’ll bring BF home as there’s security and we NEVER leave her alone with my baby (she does mainly housework). There’s nothing much to steal at home too. As for her sms-ing, she does that only at night and occasionally in the morning. So I’m fine with it. 😃

kahlan1003, I'd like to work with a \"known danger\" than take a gamble at a new one who may be even more problematic. If she is willing, why not?

Just a word of caution that she may show \"face\" now that she's been with the family for > 4 years - having known the ins and outs and all the family happenings. (sometimes we are so much creatures of habit also; and tend to get too familiar eh? 😉 ) Also, never let your guard down now that she's so familiar.
          Hi Andaiz,

Yes she has already done that shown face, but i chose to ignore. I'm actually hopeless at confrontation and usually i am easy going. Even if places are not thoroughly clean, i will not make noise as long as she takes good care of my mum.

            Hi.

Besides increment, did she have other requests?
Kiasimom, well she wants to go home first of course for abt 1 month and no besides that she has not asked for any other requests. She gets 2 Sundays off a month. Not sure what other requests do they have?

She gets to use her handphone as long as it does not interfere with her looking after my mum.

I'm not tha strict with her.

              Hi mummies!

Do you like your neighbours to tell you what they saw your maid do when you are not around? I prefer it that way because my neighbours become my ally. It’s abit like crimewatch. Your neighbours help you to keep a lookout incase maid brings home stranger or engage in funny acts in the playground with children etc. But there are a majority of us who feel that its none of our business and we don’t meddle in other people’s household. So its really a shame. I m also guilty of it. For example I see my neighbour’s maid who will talk for hours after her employer and child left for school and work. Not even sure if I should let the employer know. Worry the employer will tell me "never mind lah, only talk what!"

                Hi teapot,

I would like neighbours to tell me too. But for my neighbour, I will have to see how close I am to them. Some people don't like neighbours to be too kaypoh.

Guess it all depends on your relationship with your neighbour. I'm the \"kapoh\" one and being home with kids, did \"helped\" neighbour keep an eye. Saw an Indian worker at our lift and neighbour's girl in stroller outside her house, with maid in the house. Checked with maid and she denied seeing any Indian man. She panicked and locked both of them out of the flat. Needed my help to call her mam at work and finally, confirmed that she was seeing that man for some time - her son already told her before but with my confirmation, she sent the maid home the next day.

I also told another neighbour's maid that if she's not treated well - she got bruises on her face and arm (claimed that the 5 yr old boxed her - he is very spoilt), she lost so much weight (she's only abt 35-40kg), she could let me know and I'll help her call her agent. Offer was given 2-3 times but told her decision is hers . She did not take up and I did not insist.

                    Ya, icycandies

That’s what I meant. People might think we are meddlesome.

Wa! pecalis, you sure know your neighbours well. Actually I have stayed in my estate for 5 years but I only know a few faces and I don’t even talk to these people. So how to tell employers I saw this and that!!! However, I welcome my neighbours to tell me though.Ha…

A good way to make friends with neighbour is to share some food. Whenever I bake muffins or cheese cake or Pineapple tarts or chicken pie, I do knock on neighbours' door and tell them it's home-made and pls try. I find this effective.

I will definitely inform my neighbours if I sense or see that their maid is up to some tricks. Never mind they call me kpo.

We are neighbours and we should look out for one another.

I also ask my neighbour to look out for my maid when I am not at home and ask them to inform me if they find anything fishy.
