      peapot:
Yes autumn I did suggest those type of milk but she make a face. Sigh! Don't want to make a scene in supermkt so just give in to her \"HL\" milk.

Make a face!?!?!?! How dare she?

One of my previous myan maid has to eat rice for breakfast, she eat rice 3 meals a day, each time is like 3 rice bowls, eat more than my husband each meal. Finish 1 tin of cream crackers in 2 weeks, and coffee everyday. I don't mind the eating as long as she does her chores, follow instructions, but NO....she gave me a lot of problems and refuse to work after 3 weeks.

What is your family usual for breakfast?

How about making her co-pay? I don’t have a maid myself but heard some stories. Personally I think the maid shd eat what the employer family eats. Whatever the family eats, nothing less. If the family gets to eat cheese, for instance, maid shd have access too. But anything extra, maid needs to earn it. Either by way of good performance or other ways. If not, co pay or deduct from her salary. While employers shd not be penny fool over little things, they shd not be fleeced too.

Hi Imami, hmm… Co-pay seems to be against MOM rule. Don’t want to get complain from MOM. One forum member here ever said that MOM is Ministry of Maids. So can’t ask them to pay.

Hiaweh our family just eat bread and drink powdered milk for breakfast. It’s very simple for us too. We don’t like cheese so there won’t be any in my house.

I won’t force the maid to eat what we eat. I can pay for it as long as she don’t throw it away. Every week she will eat 1 bag of apples. Which means one apple a day. This is fine too but told her that she shouldn’t be taking care of herself so well until she neglected my gal.

I just feel that I should inform everyone that getting a experienced transfer maid has its pros and cons. I heard that her previous employer always give in to her. Hence she is so used to it for 4 years. Giving in to them too much will create prob like this. Her work performance still ok. Nowadays changing another maid means paying more and waiting for 2 to 3 months. So these days the approach to talk to maid also cannot be too harsh. Must talk to them nicely eventhough they do something wrong, because they not happy just ask for transfer. No loans or whatsoever to hold them back.

Life with maid in Singapore will get tougher next year. As I m working, I can’t take so many leave to train new maid. So this is a prob that employer need to solve ourselves. Can’t depend on the govt.

Hi peapot, understand the constrains employers (in particular, working parents) have. I almost fell off my chair when I first read how some folks describe mom as min. Of maid. Well, it certainly speaks very loudly of how some employers feel about mom and hiring maids.

Your attitude would bring forth harmony in the family + maid.

Someone told me before - getting a good maid is like Striking lottery. I agree. My sil has two maids for the past 4 yrs. The first was really good. The second sucks. So yup, it is a matter of luck.

I never wanted a maid, but my sil’s first ,aid impressed me so much that I wanted to hire her when she didn’t continue her contract with my sil. Well, she is that good. Very imptly, she likes my child.

My current maid is also a transfer. But at least she is "auto" in the sense I let ask her what she normally eat for breakfast and I will buy but she will also auto in that she will pick the cheapest or house brands.

My dh also told her that if she wants to eat anything in the fridge, ask first. So in a way, not everything is a no and she pretty much eat whatever we eat.

My agent say they offer 2 types of packages for pinoy maids. One with loan and one without loan.

I don't understand this... Could you explain this a little bit more?

I don't understand it too. Will ask the agent to explain when I go there again this week..

It's cheaper than Indo and Pinoy. Nowadays, with the new regulation, Indo and Pinoy is going to cost more. Myn maid salary ard $430-450 for new maid with no off day and no hp. Agency fee similar about $498.

                        Re: The maid’s meals

My maid requests for her favourite 3-in-1 IndoCafe coffee with extra sugar. She usually have bread or toast with jam in the morning. She loves extra sweet so we stock up more on the housebrands for her, tend to me more sweet, and she can put as much as she wants. On the days that I actually ask her to buy or prepare breakfast, she will eat whatever we eat.

For lunches, she is usually the one at home with my son. I told her to eat whatever she cooks for my son, but she prefers to eat instant noodles. So I stock up on that as well. For weekends, if we eat at home, she eats whatever we eat; if we go out, I will tell her to go and buy her lunch/dinner. Otherwise, she ends up eating instant noodles again. She prefers not to dine out with us - extra work to take care of the kids, and she is afraid of pork/wine in the dishes. Leftover are kept for her next meal.

I have this principal. At best, she eats whatever we eat. The employer’s responsibility is to provide adequate meals in terms of quantity and quality. But I think asking for freshmilk and cheese does not fall into that range - especially so if it is not a common item in the household. She will have to pay for it herself. If you continue this, wouldn’t she be asking for sashimi and caviar when you dine out? Perhaps we are very simple and basic family - if my maid have more expensive tastes, I really will not care to finance it.
