That's pretty amazing! Many people find literature tough. Btw, failing grades are very common in sec schs so don't worry so much:) which sch are you studying in btw:)[/quote]Catholic High School
Lit is counted into English.Ichigokun:

Perhaps some schools combine their subjects? If not it would be Geog, History & Lit right?
Not to worry! It's your first CA. After adjustments you would do fine. I remember i improved 16 marks for my geography from SA1 to SA2. And lit around 7 marks. Math around 10 marks! The rest...whether good or bad, it remained the same:/ Just continue to try your best, you'll do fine.
that I got A2

His and Lit are new subj. Try to get some exam papers to avoid surprises in exam. Memorizing cannot help much, ask your teachers to share some framework with you.Ichigokun:
3 more subjects? I think you mean 2.

Those primary school subjects still not bad for me
English A2. Science B3. Math B4

PSLE is over.
Now is play time.
But I, the parent need to know how to prepare my son for sec 1. If I wait till sec school posting, he would have played for 2 months.
Please advise any useful titles of reference books for science/history/geog so that my son will have some idea what to expect.
Thanks in advance. -

How to prepare our DCs and gear them for secondary school life?
I think at this point of time, the kids cannot think of anything else except to play to their heartsβ content. Okayβ¦,Understandable since they worked so hard during the PSLE and truly deserve a good break. Only thing is the kids must learn to regulate their playtime and do all things in moderation.
I think whatβs important at this point of time is to focus more on their personal growth and refinement as a person, not so much so on the academic aspects. The remaining two months are perhaps a good time to teach and train them to be confident, resilient and good problem solvers, hone and tone their leadership skills. Teach them what self-awareness is all about, something that the schools do not really touch on besides the usual core values. Secondary school life is a drastic change from primary school life and our DCs must know that they will not be spoon fed but to learn to take things into their own hands and be independent learners. Teach them to be captains of their own ships, steering themselves on the right course and sail swiftly and steadily amidst the occasional rainstorms and not be blown off course. These are more important skills to learn in order to tackle and overcome the challenges in secondary school life and not be overwhelmed.
For a start, I may get my DS to be involved in community work. Let him learn to serve rather than to be served and be sensitive to the needs of others. Contributing to the community is one way to teach self-awareness. -

You can get the Sec 1 history & geography textbooks from Popular Bookstore for the kids to read. These books are interesting & not difficult to understand. These are some of the new subjects that they will be doing next year. It is good to introduce to them during the school holidays. My boy had already read the Sec one history textbook when he was in P5 but he did not touch the geography textbook that I had bought. I guess interests also play a part. I will try to encourage him to read it this coming school holidays.
