Singapore Poly has an optometry centre that does eye tests for S$5. They also sell specs but don't force you to buy.

The tests are done by a student and a teacher will then double check the results.

          Hi

Anyone knows whether our glasses come with any uv protection? My friend’s ds was tested with myopia recently. They got a pair of glasses from A shop. After few weeks, they went to get another pair of spare glasses from B shop. When B shop chk the lens bought from A shop, they told my friend that the lens had no uv protection at all. According to B Shop, all lens should come with a min of uv protection. My friend felt that she had been cheated. I am wearing glasses myself but I also assumed that my lens cw uv protection. I went to my regular optical shop to chk and they told me my crizal lens cw uv protection but they were not able to tell me the exact SPF. Then I saw the ad on the latest product by Essilor - Crizal UV which has 25 E-SPF. According to the ad, Crizal UV guarantees the best e-SPF on the market. Since 25 e-SPF is the latest in the market, does it mean that most of the normal lens do not hv uv protection or with very little protection? Is there any minimum uv protection on the lens sold in Singapore? According to B shop, there should be a min uv protection. Can someone pls help me with my que? Thanks.

My son went for check up at the refraction clinic at HPB Building. They said his power about 200 each eye. Should I bring him straight to make glasses or seek a second opinion from another clinic? Any advice? Thanks.

No harm getting a second opinion from another clinic.

                Hi all,

My girls had eye check up in school & suggested me to bring her for detailed eye check up. I am not sure if she really need glasses or because many of her friends are wearing glasses, thus she wants to wear too.

Can anyone advise where should I go to confirm if she needs to wear specs ?
                Thanks.

To Get a check done, you can try the eye clinic at hpb if u are not keen to pop into an optical shop. And pls get the check done soon.

When I was in primary school, I told my folks that I needed glasses. They dismissed it, thinking that I wanted one because my friends are all wearing glasses. When they finally got me to the optical shop, they were reprimanded for their folly by the shop owner. Because of the delay, My myopia had worsen.

Er… Both are inside sgh but I don’t think they Are the same. I have been to both on separate occasions, if I can recall correctly, they are in different blocks within sgh. If u google "hpb" ( or health promotion board"), u shd get the contact info.
