Glad to read so many tips here. šŸ˜„

My mil taught me one tip. If we happened to overcook rice in rice pot (meaning not using ricecooker at home), then put a ceramic spoon inside the pot immediately. It can get rid of the smell of burnt rice.

Tried and tested. It worked!

i also use the ice-cream boxes to keep prawns in freezer, i din add in salt, becos i m worried the prawns after soaking too long in salted water would become salty.

also u can use plastic sheet ( cut fr tansparent plastic bags) to \"separate\" the prawns so that it is easier to remove a cooking portion for thaw.

oh ya.......talking abt prawns....
does any1 know which wet market sells \"prawns fr the sea\" (must be fr the sea not fr ponds) esp \"MING XIA\"good for making prawn dumpling.
have been asking ard the fishmongers in wet market...they replied nowadays, hardly can see \" real sea prawns\" (not those breed in the sea)
Hi,

Oh, I only add abt slightly less than half a teaspoon, thats all... šŸ˜„

try adding some sugar instead of salt in the ice-cream box,dun nd to add any more water to it. it will keep the prawns fresh esp if u buy them and stock up during cny period. My MIL always do that.

Sea prawns are readily available in Tiong Bahru Market. I get my supply there every week. In fact, there is a stall which sells only prawns and sotong!
Prawns! This is what I do.

I wash the prawns, divide them into portions, put them in a container/bag will water and add some salt, then I freeze them.

After defrosting/cooking, they taste fresh and crunchy
I used sugar instead of salt so that the prawns will not be salty. The fishmonger thought me this way, they can be frozen for months

Busymom:
Also, my pantry lady taught me to soak stained tea cups in water with squeezed lemon juice (one lemon to a pot of water) for removing the stains.

In the office, you can also use sugar (salt also can) to rub off the coffee/tea stains from your cup - it works for me.

Hi Busymom, Keroppi,

Thx for the tips. Really useful. The stains can be really annoying, esp in a favourite cup. šŸ˜„

thks for yr sharing........may i double confirm \"authenic sea prawns\" rite?? becos i came across some of the fishmongers \"lied\" that what they're selling are \"sea prawns\".
do they sell \"MING XIA\" (mandarin) there ??
which types u bot and how much do u pay for the sea prawns per kg??
does tiong bahru market have many stalls selling sea prawns or only 1 or 2?
if i go all the way there, i will buy at least 5 kg........

(oops ....so sorri......am i out of the thread) šŸ˜‰

oh........u only use less than half of a tsp, so little......i doubt it's effective......
u can also use TURMERIC powder to \"scrub and wash the fruits\"........i heard this fr the radio.

oops....sorri....i thot u're referring to vinegar added to wash fruits.....
when i re-read again, u're referring to salt....
