All about Transferring to Other Primary Schools
-
Hi, need some advice here.
My family will be relocating overseas for work. We will enrol daughter in School A (my alma mater) first. Upon our return but before daughter physically enters School A (say, when she’s 7 or 8 years old), can we go directly to School B (very popular, about 2 km away from home but much nearer, compared with School A) to check for vacancy? What are the determining factors of a successful transfer? Will the school be looking at her results from the overseas school, set tests, make her go through an interview, etc? Would be grateful if anyone with similar experience could shed some light. Thanks in advance! -
Hi
We are currently overseas and dd is enrolled in taonan early this year for primary 1 and was then on Leave of absence, we will be coming back next year for primary 2 but decided to change her to tkps, we went to tkps to submit a application in aug, we just receive the call that she has been accepted for p2 at tkps, we were then told to go to tkps to sign letter of acceptance and also to produce a letter of deregistration from taonan to complete the application.
Hope this helps -

Thank you, sylerion. Hee...more questions ahead! May I know why you'd transferred your daughter from Tao Nan to TKPS? Did you make an appointment to see the principal or simply walked in to submit the application form and asked to be put on the waiting list? What other documents did you have to show? Did the school also ask for 'evidence' of your child's school progress in her current overseas school and how she could contribute to the new school eg. playing a musical instrument, etc? Did you and/ or daughter have to go through an interview?Hi

Mummies & daddies,
What is your take on affiliated Pri/sec school? Is it really that important? Say now you have a chance to be transferred to another Pri sch with affiliated sec sch, would you do that? I have a P1 & P3 this year. -
I suppose it depends on which the affiliated sec sch is.
-
Say one of the top tier sec school?
-
Not that it’s important but it helps to ease the PSLE burden somewhat. But that is provided your kids can cope with the new school’s requirements in the first place and also what your motivation for transfer is. Eg. My ds got into his aff sec sch with lower points. For me, it was a relief as he got into a good sch without too much stress.
In any case, good luck if you decide to take up the offer. -
hi all
this is first time i m writting in this forum. i am a dependent pass holder and been to singapore only since last 1 year. during P1 admission process my daughter could not get admission in any nearby school so she was alloted a school by MoE.
i live in marine parade area and the school is in pasir ris (loyang Primary). So i wrote to MoE and they replied n told me to get my daughter registered for the waiting lists of the schools nearby. I did that but the list is already very long so chances for my daughter are thin. So if anybody can give me any suggestion, I’ll be greatful

Samy,
Any schools that is in the next town is definitely nearer than the current allocated school. Will you consider schools there? If yes, wait list at the not so popular schools. Their waitlist is much shorter.
Good luck. -
Hi all,
Need some opinions: My son will be in P6 next year (2013). Knowing that he may not do well in his PSLE, do you think it is advisable to transfer him to a sch that has affliation to a secondary sch at this late stage? Has anyone done it or know someone who has done it from P5 to P6?
