All affiliated pri sch students will enter the sec school first so long they meet the affiliated COP. Then whatever leftover vacancies will be given to non-affiliated students. The COP will then be determined. This is why NYGH's COP is higher than RGS, not because NYGH is more popular than RGS but because girls from NYPS get in first at COP of 250 before the non-affiliated students get in.

Correct me if I am wrong.

From what i understand for school such as SCGS, their admission of affilated pr school students work like this:

      Example, 200 vacancies.

School will allocate a % for affiliated students and non-affiliated.

Maybe 60% to affiliated and 40% to non-affiliated.

so, a max of 120 affiliated students will be admitted only.

Meaning, if there are 300 affliated students applied, only the top 120 will be accepted and the minimum T score among these 120 will be reflected as the COP.

I don't know what is the % allocation for affiliated students vs non-affillated students currently in SCGS esp now it turned IP. Last heard was they want to lower the % allocated for their affiliated students (probably with the purpose of not admitting students too far away from their mostly top performers, in the way of trying to 'narrow' the gap).

          thanks alng for explaining.
it seems like for non-affiliated pri sch students, getting into o-level stream of dual stream sch is getting much harder. without knowing the cop into the school for non-affiliated students, it is high risk for non-affiliated students who want to opt for o-level route in a dual stream sch as the first cut is given to affiliated students. while ACSI has past records as a benchmark, this may be the first for SJI, so the current COP of 241 may be pushed quite high. hope my intepretation is correct.
The chance will be lower if according to the discussed case. But risk? Assuming SJI has a lower COP then ACSI and yr son T-score is good enough for SJI. It doesn't really matter whether u put SJI as 2nd choice coz your chance of getting in is the same as if u put it as 1st choice. So should just put ACSI as 1st choice just in case T-score also good enough for it.

There will be no limit. I agree with you that the non-affiliated students will be badly hit.

            Let's have a numeric example.

Previously with O levels route only. No of P6 = 200. No of Sec 1 = 300. Assume all 200 P6 students meet affiliated COP and enter sec 1. Non-affiliated students will take up the other 100 seats. COP = 250.

Currently with IP and O levels route. No of P6 = 200. No of IP = 150. No of O levels route = 150. There is no affiliation for IP. Say COP for IP is 255 and only 20 affiliated P6 girls get into IP. The remaining 180 meet the affiliated COP for O levels but there are only 150 seats for O levels. So the COP for O levels will be higher than the affiliated COP. All 150 O level seats will be taken by affiliated P6 students.

            thanks alng for explaining.

wah, tough ! Jia lut for non affliated pri sch students.
like that ... will see a surge in demand seeking for transfer request(s) into affliated pri schools.

will all affiliated pri sch students able to get in if meet affiliated COP, or still have to depend on what is left over after other non-affiliated sch students have taken up the places since non-affl cop is higher?

All affiliated pri sch students will enter the sec school first so long they meet the affiliated COP. Then whatever leftover vacancies will be given to non-affiliated students. For those affiliated sec schools which are offering IP and O level dual routes now, where part of their seats are now converted to IP seats, there might be a situation in future that even when affiliated pri school girls meet the affiliated COP, demand may exceed supply and not every girl who meets the affiliated COP will enter the sec school.

if one fine day, SCGS raise the COP for GCE \"O\" level track very high -
to almost as close as the COP for IP track, Yes - many SCGS affliated pri sch girls will be affected. Those who don't meet the high COP for \"O\" level track will be out!

I’m quite confident that the new IP schools have already done their homework and ensure that the ‘promotion’ of the pri students to sec remains about the same as previous years despite the new IP program.

anyone know how many Total 2013 Sec 1 classes, in both CHIJ St Nick and SCGS ?

is the Total number of classes going to stay put the same as current year, or increase due to new intake of IP students ?

Next year is the first time SJI offers IP track. So, there is no record what its COP for IP is.

For O level track, the COP for 2012 is 242.

I believes the COP for IP will be higher as they only invited top 20 male students from neighourhood schools to attend its talk earlier this year via DSA.

No, you're incorrect. For SCGS, there is a stated affliated COP of 220. So any and all students who meet the affliated COP of 220 will be given a place in SCGS secondary. So if the entire primary school cohort scores >220, every single one of them will be given a place. Any vacancies remaining will then be available for admission of non-affliates.

how can there be a surge??! It's not like the affiliated pri schools have unlimited vacanies.
