I am just wondering about daughter’s chances of getting into St Nic’s under Phase 2B (my spouse and I and kids are all baptised). That would also partly depend on the number of girls born in the same year? Heard competition is stiff esp because of parent volunteers who all live within 1 km. My address is 2-3 km from the school so will not take the risk of registering under 2C.

Thanks.. Frightening indeed..I cannot take the PV route. Moving to another home right next to the school also isn't enough to secure a place in the school. Guess can only consider transferring daughter after she's enrolled in my old school. Skip all the balloting stress. Hello road traffic stress.

Then again, MOE may tweak the registration system a few years down the road...speculation speculation.

You do not need to do PV to get into Phrase 2B for all catholic schools if you are baptised catholic. Btw, my understanding St Nic stopped taking in PV and you are competing with the catholic.

Even if the school stops taking in PVs, there will still be competition from grassroot leaders.

Am thinking of enrolling my boy into Catholic High, I have asked the school, we are in phase 2B, because we’re Catholic. However, she mentioned "year 2006 to 2012 we balloted for those whose residential addresses are within 1 km", does this mean we don’t even get a chance for balloting if we don’t live within 1km of the school?

Yes you don’t stand a chance if you live outside 1km. For both Phase 2B and Phase 2C, even within 1km, your chances are less than 50% as a huge number of people apply for the school.


Plan B may be St Gabriel’s (no balloting needed), SJI Junior or Maris Stella (need to ballot for those >2km). Depends on where you live.
