GEP 2012 - Screening & Selection
-
Estimate about 4000 students selected to take the round 2 GEP.Eventually only top 1% like 500 wouldbe offer GEP program.Maybe someone can post a short sticky on pros and cons of GEP for potential selected students. The MOE briefing more like a kind of hit and run briefing in which need more clarifations may not get valuable answers. If hv any parents hv experience with GEP from P4 to P6 maybe can share the dark and bright. Just I read or recall the past few days,GEP focus very little on psle syllabus. The students exposed tons of projects to do.May not be suitable for kids thatare not independent.

Understand that there are many projects to do for the GEP pupils, does that means much parental involvement is needed? Though the pupils are ‘expected’ to do the projects themselves, but at this young age, i do believe that much time and effort are expected from parents to guide them along (or even teach and help him) to do the projects? or not? my concern is if my kid is not an independent learner, as in need nagging and pushing to do his work, although he is rather good academically, would he be suitable for GEP prog? i am a working mother and i am afraid that i do not have the time needed to help him go through it. Hence even though if he would be selected for GEP, i am really contemplating whether should he do for GEP or not. Hope more parents with GEP pupils can share their experience good and bad ones for my info. thanks

Actually the delivery of the projects are already scheduled way in advanced so there will be several weekends or even term break to work on.
As for being independent, how many kids r really independent, esp at this early age. -
When will the results of round 2 be typically out?

Dear Experience Parents,
During the 3 years in GEP , the kids still have chance to enjoy their childhood?? -

Of course they will still enjoy their childhood. They play soccers and computer games, just like any other p4 kids.Dear Experience Parents,

Just curious why rulers are not allowed to bring into the test centre.
