It's ok not to trace the alphabets in order, jedamum... as long as for now
he is tracing each letter in the proper fashion.

maybe i wasn't so clear....he can follow A to Z sequence but he doesn't follow the strokes sequence of the letter...ie instead of 'up to down - stop' then 'up curve down' to form 'D', he drew 'D' in the fashion of an 'O'.
meaning i have to correct his strokes now, right?

It say that before a child learn to trace a letter or number, they need to practice handwriting readiness by practicing some of this activities, is this necessary? But it does seems to me it makes some sense.

For parents who is keen to train ur child's fine motor skills, there are some other activities in their website which i tink is quite good e.g cutting, lacing... all printable and free!

It is frustrating that till now my DD2 in her
lazy mode will still wanna write her letter \"o\"
anti-clockwise from bottom up and not only
that, it will end up looking like a dumpling
with an ugly gap and string on top of it.
Legibility is another often overlooked part
of handwriting & when dealt with too late,
it affects grades when it comes to exams
in Primary school. Teachers may mark
test/exam answers wrong due to what
seemingly are wrong answers to her
but actually illegible handwriting on
the child's part..

Found out what the Dolch Word List is all abt thru jedamum's article. :oops: Now better understand that sight words go hand in hand with phonics. You know, I really don't remember how I 'picked up' the basics/foundation in during my kindy years. All I remember is that my sis was/is an avid reader and that I started reading ard 5 or 6 yrs cuz of her and never stopped since. So for DS, I really have to start from scratch on how to teach him stuff at his level.

But I am enjoying the process ..... much more fun than being in NIE .... :lol:

Hi all


Hope I'm posting in the correct thread. I recently bought this game \"Zingo\" from Toys R Us and my kids love it. It's \"supposed\" to help with word recognition etc. Though I do not know if it really helps in that sense, I do know that both DS1 and DD2 (2 yrs old) enjoy playing it. Therefore can't resist recommending it. Also at $14.90 for Star card members, it's really a steal. Check out the website for more info on the game.

Hi mummy of 2, yes can post here.

Although it may not be an entirely phonics
material per se (as it has mixture of early
and advanced words in one card), this fun
game can be used for the purpose of whole
word recognition practice. Children who are
visual learners will benefit from this game.

Whole word recognition is when children indirectly

pick up words visually like the common sight words.
Yes, it is fun cos it is made in the form of a game
than in say… flashcards form or wall frieze form,
so actually children are learning through playing…
