      Hi Hi,

My DS will be in Respectful class.
Am so excited about the orientation. πŸ˜‰

Can any mummies advise the following as cant find the details from the orientation letter?

      1) Are we allow to wear sock and shoes without Rosyth logo?
      2) How many PE attires are needed for a week school?
      3) What are the CCA or extra class for Primary 1 level?

      Cheer!

      Hi,

No need to wear sock & shoes with Rosyth logo, normal white socks & shoes will do. At least2 PE attires as Wed to Fri need to wear them. Can check their website for CCA but P1 not compulsory. Suggest don't stress yr kid too much by joining CCA in P1 as he/she needs time to settle down in the sch. Never heard of extra class, u mean remedial class right?

I would recommend 3 sets of PE attire to cater for all the 3 school days that require PE attires and in case of rainy days. 2 sets of school uniform will do.

Hi, my son is attending Rosyth P1 next year.

I am new at this. Not sure what pri sch education is like. Need lots of advice.
Not in education industry n one of those lucky ones who sailed thru sch during my time. And still doing higher learning n taking exams/assessments next year, so trying to prepare psychologically n time management for an utterly stressful year.
What is the time-table like? How long is each lesson?
Are the lessons mostly sit down or hands-on?
        How big are the classes?
What are the P1 teachers like? My son challenges his kindergarten teachers a lot, but not sure if its acceptable in pri sch.
        What is recess time like?
Does someone help the kids buy food or get packed food or they hv to bring food from home? Is there anyone to watch over the kids?
        When is the orientation?
Do I get a syllabus and the schedule for assessments for the whole years' work?
        Thanks a lot in advance!

The timetable is different for every class, so I also do not know about the schedule. Each lesson is 30 minutes long, and I think p1 classes are mostly sitting down. My DS is in p5 GEP, and the mainstream classes he knows of have about 40 pupils each. Should be same for p1. Recess time is also 30 min long.

P1 class size is 30. Only from P3 onwards class size is 40.
There will be an orientation sometime in Oct / Nov for the P1 kids. Also, when school open in the new year, there will be 3 days of initial hand-holding cum orientation for the P1 kids. They will have buddies (probably P3 kids) bringing them to recess and teaching them how to buy food. The class teacher and buddies will also bring them around the school compound. Recess is \"free time\" so there is no exact person watching over them except for the first 2-3 days when the teachers will do so.
Syllabus will be according to textbooks, and for English, it is stellar programme (and will be given workbooks which teacher will teach in class). If the kids finish work earlier, they are allowed to go and read at the reading corner of the classroom. Schedule for tests, assessment etc. will only be posted every term. Lower primary is usually easy and should not pose a problem for most kids.

            Hi awhuang,

Thanks for the informations on the shoes and uniforms.
I thought CCA is more on non-academic aspect of school life? I think my boy will have more fun than stress during CCA where he will get to know more friends and the new environment?
Just thinking good to spend more time on enjoying CCA before the work load goes up on upper level.

Understand from the letter, extra class organize by PTA so I would think not referring to remedial class. So wondering what extra classes are they.

Is it advisable to buy them on the next date or maybe buy books from popular bookshop itself?

Yes, so far this is the timetable for my lower primary kid - 3 days PE attire and 2 days uniform. Last a week.

So wondering what extra classes are they.[/quote]CCA usually starts before school as lower primary is afternoon session. So kid will have long day in school and can be very tiring for them, esp. P1. On top of that, need to address the lunch issue before school if kid join CCA. CCA is not required till P3 (and it will continue till P6), so your kid can have some time to adapt to new environment instead of plunging head-on into a hectic schedule.

Enrichment classes organised by PTA are usually on weekends (Sat or Sun) conducted in school compound. List will be provided to parents and up to you if you want kid to join classes. Can be musical or arts lessons or others.

Books can be bought from Popular. Uniform can be bought from vendor stall somewhere in Serangoon NEX area.

However, if you do not wish to travel to buy items, it is better that you quickly queue for the uniform first, as it requires kid to try out (or bring along a T-shirt to measure). If you are buying full set of books and stationaries, bookshop usually have packed ones so it is easier. For kids need school bus service, don't forget to go to school bus counter to enquire or even complete the request form.

During orientation, be quick in completing forms (you need your bank account number for school fees GIRO). Pick up your kid once completed and go for the purchase before the queue comes along. Even better if both parents can be there and you \"split up\" for the tour / completing forms / purchases. Once everyone is out, it is messy and long queues for any purchases.
