P1 orientation is on 16th and 17th, not sure if it is divided into different P1 classes for parents. You have to chk with school on this.

thanks. No wonder my letter says 16th but one of the parent here mentioned 17th. :lightrod: :scratchhead:

Hello, just back fm town.Bring the child if need to purchase Uniform. Confirmed not Orientation day. I called the school to confirm already. Orientation day will be somewhere end of DECEMBER 2012. :imcool: Mine is on 17th October 2012.
Yeah, these 2 days are usually for the parents to do the paperwork like completing the edusave form, the giro form, make payment for the 1st 3 days of catered food for recess etc etc Textbooks and uniforms will also be sold on these 2 days. So if u wish to buy uniform for your child, it is best to bring your child along. Otherwise, I think the vendor will also come during sch holidays (certain days). Orientation is usually a few days before school reopens. On orientation day, parents hand over child to the class teacher and then proceed to the hall for a talk. Children are brought to their classroom to get to know their teacher's n friends.

16th and 17th are for formal registration and run through with parents of the school culture. At the same time, there will be vendors there on school books sales, school bus arrangement, uniform ordering, after school care, etc.

Bring along cash as this is the only mode of transaction.

Spent $300 on 3 sets of uniform, 2 sets of PE attire, 3 pairs of socks, and all the textbooks plus some assessment books on sale.

              education here is expensive!

                  Hello,

Did anyone realise no text book for English?

I go thru the list again and confirm no text bk to buy for EL lesson?

5 colour files, purple for HDP. What is HDP?

Existing MBS mothers can advise? Specially why no text bk for EL…?

Going thru some of the bk and realise Buddhist study & moral text book all in Chinese…:p trying to get use to it.

Yup, no English textbooks. I was pretty surprised too. Buddhist study books are optional. You can choose not to buy as the kid can opt out from the lesson, acc to the bookshop seller.

This is not only for MBS students. You will be briefed on the Houghton Mifflin approach during the orientation. Other schools are using the Stellar approach for their EL lessons.

                      hth.

                        Hi,

My DD is going to P1 next year too.

You might want to visit Maha Bodhi website ( http://www.mahabodhi.moe.edu.sg/programmes_eng_prog.php ), to understanding more on how the school teachers are going to teach our kids and assessed their performance.

Based on what I read from Maha Bodhi website, they are under SAP (Special Assistance Plan). Based on MOE website ( http://www.moe.gov.sg/media/press/2008/02/enhanced-programmes-by-special.php ), SAP primary schools will teach non-examination subjects such as Art, Music, Physical Education and Social Studies in Chinese.

HDP stands for Holistic Development Profile. See you more often at kiasu parent forum.
