That's right. The pain is more on me than him. He's still he's usual chirpy, upbeat self! Some days when I cane him, he also cannot remember :skeptical: seems he has this ability to block out nasty events! Thanks sim Khoo, I sure hope as he grows older he will meet more kind friends.
I understand how you feel. My daughter went through all that, but it was I who felt the pain. She doesn't really care. After some time, I reasoned that as long as she didn't mind, I shouldn't impose my own preferences onto her. We still encourage her to try to be friendly and to at least reciprocate offers of friendship even if she doesn't feel the need to reach out. As your son encounters more people, there will be some who are are either kind enough to reach out to him, or will find some sort of connection with his interests. When that happens, encourage him to reciprocate as much as he is able. It will only happen when he encounters kids who are a bit older; at preschool age, most kids are still very self-centred. -

Yah if it's cg, would it be easier to talk to the parents? Sometimes I think telling other parents about our kids condition can be an advantage coz we can solicit help. Like today I decided to open up to another mom whose son is also in same class as my boy. She was sympathetic and offered to have playdates with my son to help him. Otherwise I would be very lost cause I really find it hard to get playdates with my friends since they all have their own family life.mashy:
It really depends on the group dynamics. Sad to say, it's my church cg boys who rejected him most. They even made a plan to distract him to another room while they play their games without him. Needless to say, I stopped going cg after a while because of how they treated him.
That's very sad. Have you spoken to the parents about it? If I were one of the parents, I would certainly make sure my kids behaved differently. Before I had my ASD child, I think I wouldn't have understood and would have appreciated someone like you explaining the issues to me. -

Anyway it's also difficult to tell the other parents, hey your children could be nicer. They witnessed the whole incident too but didn't stop it there and then.slmkhoo:

Do autistic kids have poor muscle development? I noticed that my son is very uncoordinated. When I see him practise his tkd moves, I wanna shake head. It's terrible. When he runs during sports day (all the kids in class had to participate), he ran like a toddler.
Why did you go to see the psychologist unless you wanted a diagnosis? A diagnosis would mean having a label. If you don't want the label, you can still ignore it. Don't use it on your son, don't tell anyone about it, don't assume that he will be the 'typical' case. Just deal with the issues. I didn't get my daughter diagnosed and so she didn't get a label, but I still worked on various issues with her. If I needed other people's help, I would just describe the symptoms - she's introverted, she doesn't converse well, she daydreams a lot, she's not well-coordinated etc. Once when she was having a hard time with a pushy PE teacher, I got a pd neurologist to write a letter stating that she was poorly co-ordinated with weak muscle development (he said if I wanted a definitive diagnosis of 'dyspraxia', she would need more tests, but we said the letter was good enough) which allowed her to continue PE lessons without the pressure. Just my experience.helplessmum3:
double e,
kkh physcologist at St Andrew say \"im now labeling your son\" \"this is what im doing\"
when i ask, can dont lebal my son just yet...
my son already being verdicted. -
slmkhoo:
Agree. I think your boy (based on what you have described so far) is progressing well too, helplessmum!
Well, based on what you have described of your son, it seems that he is definitely progressing well. It might have been just that he was a little slower to develop in some areas. In my opinion, the psychologist should not have given a label when your son was so young. Certainly in social skills, he doesn't seem ASD at all. Maybe you should just ignore the ASD label for now and focus on specific issues.helplessmum3:
