And it is not difficult. Coz DD is used to draw model isn't she?so difficult... :xedfingers: hope not my DD1's exam questions.
Sometimes they all are better than us when it comes to model questions, I dunno why

The answer must be multiples of 5 & 9? I thought 60 is also a possible answer?[/quote]oops... my mistake... read as 7/9 of the pupils instead of \"remaining pupils\".. in this case, smallest class size is 15 or class size is multiple of 15...now must really get old flower glass..

In a class, 2/5 of the pupils liked golf and 7/9 of the remaining pupils liked tennis. The rest of the pupils liked soccer. If there were 12 more pupils who liked golf than soccer, how many pupils were there in the class altogether?
Please help to explain as I don’t understand. This is from P4 SA2 ACS Maths Booklet B (2010). Thanks -

remaining pupils --> 3/5 class
Tennis --> 7/9 x 3/5 = 21/45 class
soccer --> 1-2/5-21/45 = 6/45 class
2/5 class - 6/45 class = 12
12/45 class = 12
class --> 45 pupils

2/5 like golf so remaining 3/5.
3/5 is later divided into 9 parts. 7 out of the 9 parts like tennis.
the rest 2 parts like soccer.
since 3/5 = 9 parts,
then 2/5 = 6 parts. (u have to reflect this in your model.)
therefore :
6 parts like golf
7 parts like tennis
2 parts like soccer
6 - 2 = 4 (golf - soccer)
4u --> 12
1u --> 3
15u --> 45
