A fruit seller sells a kiwi at $0.80 and an apple for $0.30.
He sells at $3.00 per pack for every 4 kiwis bundle with a free apple.
After selling the apples and kiwis, the number of apples is 3/10 the number of kiwis he sells.
If he collects a total amount of $38.50, how many kiwis more than apples does he sell ?

Hi zombie,

The cost of 3 apples and 10 kiwis --> 2 bundles + 1 apple + 2 kiwis = $7.90

We will use guess and check. However, we don't do guess and check blindly. We need to estimate where to guess.

Guess:
First u take $38.50 ÷ $3 to find that you will have around 12 of the bundle.
This give 48 kiwis and 12 apples and the cost is $36.
The 3/10 fraction will tell you that the number of kiwis must be a multiple of 10. Since now you are still short from $38.50, we will find the next multiple of 10 after 48, which is 50.

This means that you will have 50 kiwis and 15 apples.

Check:
Cost --> 12 bundles X 3 + 2 kiwis (not bundled) + 3 apples (not bundled) = 12 X $3 + 2 X $0.80 + 3 X $0.30 = $38.50
We are lucky that we got the correct amount in the first try.

Thus there are 50 - 15 = 35 more kiwis than apples.

Make the base the same. 1/6 = 2/12 and 3/4 = 9/12. Therefore, beginning make them have 12 units. Since choc muffins have 864 more, it will be 12 units + 864.

Total 800 guppies and swordfish
5/5 swordfish + 5/5 guppies --> 800
1/5 swordfish + 1/5 guppies --> 800/5 = 160

Left: 3/5 swordfish + 2/5 guppies --> 414
so, 1/5 swordfish --> 414 - 2 x 160 = 94,
total number of swordfish, at first --> 5 x 94 = 470
total number of guppies, at first --> 800 - 470 = 330

at first, guppies as fraction as total number of fish = 330/800 = 33/80

1/4 of May's share --> 1 unit + $735, May's share --> 4 units + $2940

Total --> 9 units + $2940 = $8160
1 unit --> $580
May's share -->
May's share as percentage of total amount
= $5260/8160 x 100%
= 64.5% (to 1 decimal place)
