Are you prepared to pay the higher income tax? 40% income tax? How about 20% GST? To supple the budget surplus for the welfare? They might be a good proportion of retirees that will be looking forward to 生果金 post retirement... instead of seeking to be active working members of the society?

Or, will it be better to buy their tissue papers at $2 and only donate as and when you feel like when the whatever-charity-shows air on channel 8? and get your share of ranting right about the gov isn't doing it's welfare job in KSP? And wait for the big profitable companies to donate their millions?

Will you be happy that the gov isn't spending your big tax monies on whatever you deemed you deserved, e.g., your children's education, your medicals, your HDB grants blah blah blah... instead of 40% budget annually goes to the welfare....

Maybe my post has led you to misunderstand my point. I'm not blaming the Government. I'm only pointing out that the money given to such scholars can be put to better use.

I know that the Government has been doing their part. They are involved in many projects for the poor especially through MYCS and various religious organisations. In fact, many religious organisations are doing their part without the Government's help. Churches, temples, mosques to name a few have been providing free meals,tuition etc and they are run by volunteers who aren't paid a single cent for doing that.

From your post, I can see that you are a very compassionate and generous person. Sadly, there aren't many people like you around. There are also many who would be more than willing to throw $10 into the cup but can ill afford to. Of course as you have pointed out there are also who don't do charity for recognition. I salute people like you and many others. However, this is not the topic of discussion here. I'm sure you are aware of the sentiments on the ground towards such 'wasteful' money on the scholars and my point is such money can be channeled towards helping and doing more for our own people to further improve their lives.

think NUS law faculty has seriously made grave mistake ! They picked the wrong candidate(s) as Asean scholar! Somewhere, somehow the selection criteria in selecting candidates stringently to groom them to become Asean scholar... had gone heywire ! Instead of producing a tip top lawyer high expectation from society to uphold moral justice and moral values in our Singapore jurisdical system using our tax payers money to groom him, NUS had churned out someone totally opposite ! Instead, NUS had churned out a crazy sex oriented guy aspiring to fulfill his dream to be some famous star in the Entertainment industry ! This is a laughing stock, disgrace & mockery to the Law society & Faculty !

since this guy had declared publicly in this video in his own words that he is not interested to pursue law & that he had struck it out since Year One, what is NUS going to do next ? I believe that are many more deserving candidates out there, eagerly awaiting for a valuable place of scholarship.

I think they need to answer to the public not only about how they select their scholars but even their professors (sex for grades) as well.


Basically, the name for NUS Law School is tarnished. And to think it’s Law, of all faculties. shakes head

A person’s moral values, integrity and apetite for sex, can never be assessed via an interview. If the panel had gone through a proper background checks, calling up of referees, that would have been due diligence done.


If these scholars, lecturers, after being accepted into the NUS law school and started to show their colours, it is not fair to blame NUS. Strictly speaking, they are victim too. Their good name is being tarnished.

Just thinking out loud. Maybe we should abolish scholarships and convert into interest free or low interest study loans.


We will not have bond breakers but genuinely passionate and qualified job seekers to match the positions. No free ride at taxpayers’ expense. Less elite and yaya banana half baked monkeys that take advantage of the system and spit in our faces.

It’s very sad there is a breed of intelligent people who are going against the law…too smart for their own good…yet nothing can be done…either they lust for sex, favors or fame. The good name of some schools are tarnished in the process.
