My eldest son will be taking PSLE next year. Im very worried for him. This year seems to be a change in his academic progress. He is not coping well. I also feel that his attitude towards his studies is one of the determining factor. He hates language, english and malay. He refuses to work towards it. Not that his science and maths are strong either but at least he is passing on both these subjects with C. I need your advise on where should i start to help him build his English foundation. Thanks

P5 standard is usually set higher than P4 bcos of the PSLE style and format. A lot of students found that their marks dip becoz of that. I am in no position to advise as my dd is also not performing as well as expected. But I just share lah.
People always say read a lot - that will help your child improve his vocab and maybe his composition. But to do well for P2, I still feel must ask your child to go through the format and each section of the English paper P2 first. There is a PSLE english complete guide (my pals are here series). It focuses on different components of P2 and how to answer questions with tips and hints. Then practise past year papers. Pick up a list of vocab from there.
Just my 2 cents worth of sharing.

Hi, SA2 is currently ongoing in most schools ... Thus to answer ur qn, not available yet... Earliest is typically, end dec or early jan 2013.If u r looking for p6 2012 prelim top school papers, these are available n you can contact Jeremy papers ... Cheers

Top school P6 prelim papers were out last month. Many of the P6 kids had bought & did the papers during their one week school holidays. -

Your boy is allowed to use any other method beside the model method during PSLE. Whether you should teach your son algebra will depend on his Math foundation. However, you may introduce the basics to him during this coming school holidays. Make sure he is not confuse, if he is, then better stick to model method. No method mark is given for wrong answer, if he uses algebra. Most Math teachers also do not encourage them to use algebra. My boy took his PSLE this year & he prefers to use algebra over model method. He got A* for his Maths.
So my questions are:
1) If my DS uses algebra in PSLE to solve questions, will he be penalized? Like are the markers looking specifically for the model method?
2) Should I even teach my son the algebra method? Or will it just confuse him? -

Should I go into panic mode :nailbite:
My P5 boy failed his OE Science. Told me the highest in class is 30/40. Have not seen the paper. Most disturbing is his comment: most of the qn I have not seen before. To me, it's translated into he has an issue with process skills n application of concepts.
