Callie, well done. I’m sure it will work out well for your daughter.

My girl in 3H enjoys every VB training session. Coach is strict but they learn well. She hopes to get into the school team although I think the most important/rewarding thing is that she stays fit through the sports she likes.

Thanks for your encouragement Table Spoon...

May I check... so far your P3 girl's training this whole year is it tough? Have they started to take part in competitions yet? Or they are asked to go to various competitions to observe?

Training for first half of the year is very manageable as the coach will be focusing on the sch team participating the zonal and national competitions. For P3 kids, training only stepped up in term 3 when they have an extra training session every Mon afternoon. Hence, training is 3 times a week - twice in the afternoons and once during PE. More physical and skill training from term 3 onwards, can be very tiring.

My girl participated in inter-school Bassaball, a fun telematch-style volleyball game. They are also asked to watch and cheer for the school team during competitions. Almost all inter-school VB competitions are held in Pei Chun since it has one of the best VB courts (better than the ones in Cedar, Nanyang Girls and Hwa Chong) and it’s the south zone Centre of Excellence for Sports.

On the whole, I’m happy that she enjoys the sports and benefiting from the sports class so far. Her teachers are very good, too!

Thank you Table Spoon. I have pmed you some questions... don't want to bore others with my girl's CCA... please check your inbox. Thanks!

Btw, can you maybe elaborate on the good teachers here?? Think some parents may wish to know too... you are referring to the teacher-in-charge or coach?

Can any P3 parents share the Science Syllabus for P3?

My girl’s enrichment centre told me every school teaches the subject differently (topics covered and how in depth and how wide) so the enrichment centre has actually did a research and specially tailored the enrichment programs according to evey school’s syllabus. Thank you!!

                Hi Callie

For the P3 this year, the school covers the following topics:

                1) Diversity (a very big topic) focusing on diversity of living and non-living things, diversity of materials

                2)Interactions - Magnets

3)Sytems - Plants systems and Human Systems (Digestive System)

They did diversity in whole of term 1 and 2. Term 3 was magnet. Term 4 was system.

May I know which enrichment centre your DD goes to?

                  Hi iluvjr2,

Thank you so much for providing this information!!

My DD is going to start Science class with The Learning Lab soon. In this case I can double check the syllabus with them and see whether what they advocate is true or not... They mentioned that their cater and customize the topics to be covered carefully according to each school's syllabus so that what the kids learn at TLL will help them in all the school work and exams.

In your opinion, may I know do you think the subject is very tough?

In your opinion, may I know do you think the subject is very tough?[/quote]In my opinion, P3 science is still managable. At this level, the tatic to tackle open-ended science question is to identify which topic the question is directing at, then use the key concepts and terminology under the topic to answer the questions. I am using this method to coach my son currently. However, as they progress into upper pri, this tatic may not be adequate as the tested scope would be much wider and identification could be tougher. Hence, I will be sending my DS for science tutition come next year.

Thank you for your sharing… I did contemplate whether to start her science tuition so soon… and still considering.

Btw, the school had a CCA briefing and issued another PN on selection of CCA?? I am a bit confused… so those already selected CCA gotta re-select again? My DD has friends that are switching CCAs now after the briefing… I don’t understand why this briefing cannot be held earlier so that all the kids and parents know what other CCAs PCPS has beside the niche CCAs. Now then I know PCPS got brownies and gardening club…

I believe this CCA briefing on 2 Nov (If i recalled the date correctly) is a general one, catering to all students from all levels beside those that had been selected for niche CCAs. Every year, the child is allowed to change his/her CCA for the next academic year and hence that explains the reason for this briefing.
