Thanks everyone for the advice . Seems that the rumors are not that scary .

I'm sure my dd will enjoy NJC curriculum . After the tour , even my younger girl in p4 told me that she will work hard and aim for NJC .

I have signed the preference form for NJ. Honestly, I prefer my dd to be in NJ then to choose an all girls sec school.

My girl doesn't like to be in all girls school too . I submitted the online preference last night ! 🕺

Hee hee .. It still is, but sadly times hv changed and ppl too. Ive seen and heard cases of others frm dds sch posted there n r nt too happy with the current crowd n environment. Since NJ is dds dream sch andt the curriculum fits her better, i think its high time she expose herself to a different crowd and come out of an all girls sch environment.

After settle the decision , I would like to know how do I get the uniform and textbook?

Can I get it earlier as I do not want to do it during orientation . I’m sure it will be very crowded . This is another advantage of DSA .

School Uniform from Bibi & Baba, PE attire & Polo T fom sch bookshop.

Textbooks - think only Higher Chinese & Mathematics textbooks can be bou from Popular Bookstore. The other subjects hardly hv compulsory textbooks, mostly are recommended titles.

J Toh… Yup, dd will be happy to be in her dream sch…she nvr did like my choice as she knows quite a no. of studets there n prefer to start off with a fresh n different crowd.

Phtthp … not too sure the exact no. that accepted NJs CO cos we just submitted the sch preference form. DD saw 9 at the interview and 4 were frm GEP…think at least 4 accepted but nt sure about the GEPers cos i guess they prefer to go where most of their friends are.

I do not know whether the booklist is given out in advance.

Popular Bookstore will hv the HCL textbooks.

During my boy's JH1, I remember the sch teacher did not teach the HCL textbooks, chapter by chapter. There was a theme, the chapters were selected according to the theme, some from textbook A, some from textbook B. The teacher did not really explain the characters vocabulary, a lot of self learning needed to be done.

As for Maths, the teacher mostly taught from the booklet, not the textbook and the students would be informed which exercises in the textbooks to do.
According to my boy, as long as the student pays attention in class and does the assignments, there should be no problem.

If you like to prepare your child now, it is better to begin reading newspapers, both CL n EL, to increase general knowledge as essay writing in sec sch comprises general writing (not creative writing).

Those CL guidebooks 报章读后感 will be very helpful.
