      mummyscorpio,

      :hugs:

I think tmr should just enjoy the hols and a chance to clear your head.

The Nov/Dec hols is coming, you can use that to fill in the gaps. Find out what's the weakness and focus on those.

There are fun ways to learn Chi characters so don't lose hope. I have a few books which talk about chi char origins and what the char looks like to help to remember the char. I will post the titles tmr, now too late to find the bks. I also used the 四五快读bks. I find the tips on how to teach the char useful.

As for carelessness, I think it's a stage that they will overcome. My dd1 can copy the words wrongly :faint: Maybe more practise might help ? I also remind dd1 to chk her work. Maybe you can show him how many marks he could have gotten if he was more careful, it might motivate him.

Try to tackle one area at a time. Maybe talk to his teachers to find out what other ways to help him.

      All the best

Same as my girl too.. she can make mistakes on single digit on addition and subtraction too.. like 4-1 = 5. So u are not alone :).

copy the word wrongly.. I think all kids the same \"careless\".

          mummyscopio:
          Hi all...

          Feeling very depress right now....

Initially was happy cos tmr PH... planned to bring my D1,2,3 to sentosa since DS1 only left with 1 math paper next week...
but then i got back his english paper today and he only scored 46.5/60 of which he lost 9.5 marks due to carelessness like missing one word in the sentence -0.5m, no cap letter -0.5m, copy the word wrongly -0.5m and he actually wrote \"train\" when the pic shows \"aeroplane\" and \"tiger\" when the pic shows \"lion\"...
i know he knows the answer... and i shouldn't stress him so much.... but i can't help feeling shitty about it...

next week he'll get back his chinese paper... and i'm sure he'll fail it.....
i seriously don't know what to do anymore.... to think that i was a chinese teacher for 10 years... it seriously is a irony that my DS1 had been failing chinese from term 2...
DH keeps saying that DS is just like him (DH never passed chinese since P3)... and i should lower my expectations (because DS cried one night and said he really found it difficult to remember the chinese character)... i did.. i just hope he will Pass....
Friends keep telling me i should do more chinese with him.. and that its never too late..... but frankly speaking there's english and math to deal with too.... DS takes so long to do some chinese work and i can't really do much with him cos there other subjects to deal with too and i don't wish to eat into his play time...

i am really feeling so drained now.... i really wonder if i can take the pressure when DD2 goes pri1 in 2014 (think she'll be worse... with her \"princess illness\").....

Sometimes i feel like going back to work full time and have my own space, my own income, do lots and lots of shopping for clothes and shoes and forget about the kid's school work!

            :hugs:

              mummyscorpio,

The book is 字形画, there are 3 sets. For each chi char there’s an explanation of the make-up of the chi char to help remember the char, the number of strokes, the strokes sequence, the 组词, 词语搭配, 造句, a way to remember the char and how the char was written over the yrs.

Thank you very much for all the encouragement…

Sahm… I have all these books… And the teaching aids…

I think it’s about our attitude… I gets very impatient when i find him not absorbing… On the other hand… I think his dislikes for Chinese is making him auto shut down when it cames to Chinese work… his teacher is an untrained teacher… And he is in the last class… Teacher struggling to control the class and think he ignore and do whatever he wants

If u can swim, may not guarantee that u can teach your kid how to swim too.

Likewise, teaching other children is easier than teaching your own. (less expectation?)
But doesn't mean we shld set lower expectation for our kids.
Just have to balance parenting and teaching roles.
Outsourcing teaching role with better resources is always an option.
                    :celebrate:
