.... Don't have to be so bitter and sour.
Apparently you didn't get my message. Too bad.

Incidentally, my kids all took their PSLE long long time ago.

gotta see things from general perspective...i've seen parents who turned distant and unfriendly this year when there used to be a conversation...some are so afraid to talk, afraid they will be asked about tutors that they avoid eye contact or see you transparent...but to get kids to ask their classmates about their tutors is rather overboard :slapshead: classmates' mums also called me out of the blue to enquire tutors :faint: my friend and her son was followed by another parent as they were heading to tutor's place...when friend went got down from car to buy lunch, the other parent got down from her car and approached her...that's how scary it is.

          I agree with u.

My point is that I don't agree that kiasuism or feat of psle has anything to do with rich or poor. Got money to send kids overseas or not.

When my DS collected his psLe results, I saw some parents went around peeping into the result slips of other students. This is the ultimate of kiasuism. Nothing to so with they got money to send kids overseas or not.

To equate fear of and kiasuism with ability to send kids overseas for studies is irrational to say the least. A sweeping statement. There are rich kiasus or poor non-KS. It is the personality. I have met many many very rich but kiasu people. U won't believe that they so rich but go around to grab for food too!

I heard a lot of scary things parents do when their kids are in P6...some are very rich or hold high posts but when it comes to tuition, they bargain with tutors yet when buying shares, they have no qualms buying.
For those heroes who think otherwise, you can just laugh at the others who are trembling with fear. What I can't stand are those who got the money to send kids for 1 to 1 tuition for ALL subjects. Those who got money to expose kids to the best educational resources and overseas trips. After that they go around telling everyone - don't kam chiong, it is PSLE only. It is not the end of the world if they didn't do well. There are many other routes to success. Back in their mind, they are ever ready to pack their kids to US, UK or Australia for their Sec studies. Many such rich kids can be found overseas in top Uni. Their entry is easier because they have been studying there since Sec level.

So lets be honest. If one wants to be hero, we give you our due respect. However, for those who have all the resources (that allows them to provide alternative routes for their kids) and going around telling others not to be overly excited, I find them the most disgusting.

              :salute:

Nah.....this is a totally unfair and sweeping statement. Smacks of envy and jealousy.

I have a friend who never asks her child how many marks he gets. The child is so curious why and asked his mum. Her answer, \"did you do your best? If yes, then that is good enough for me. It doesn't matter if the marks are 50 or 90.\"

Just accept that diff people have diff patenting style. Don't have to be so bitter and sour.
Dnls_mum, somehow I think u r on a diff frequency.

Haha...maybe. My prob is I equate kan cheong parents with Kiasuism. That perhaps is too sweeping too :slapshead:

I shd say instead that parents who are not kan cheong are not necessarily rich and planning to send kids overseas. Just diff personality and parenting style..........

Oh well, I must be differently wired....need to go reboot. :scratchhead:

If you talked about individual's perspective, what you say is fine.. i.e. no need to be fearful.

However, we're discussing the possible impact on the community, not whether one should or should not be fearful. Hence, I feel OCBC's naming is in bad taste. The implementation is good, but the naming is no good.

It actually singled out PSLE as a reason to take leave.

Allowing parents to take leave during PSLE and OPENLY endorsing PSLE as a valid reason to take leave can have different impact on the employees. To say OCBC is fuelling fear is not totally untrue.
                      Nice 😉

Already there are some on the thread who are hinting that PSLE leave should be formalised (i.e., what if there were no label and corporation declines to give, how?), i.e. now pressure is put on other corporations/institutions to follow suit.

It's a slippery slope, it exploits fears.

Pretty unhealthy, isn't it? JT is spot on, the fact that she stirred controversy tells you that she is spot on.
