PSLE leave: For or Against?

NiceIf you talked about individual's perspective, what you say is fine.. i.e. no need to be fearful.
However, we're discussing the possible impact on the community, not whether one should or should not be fearful. Hence, I feel OCBC's naming is in bad taste. The implementation is good, but the naming is no good.
It actually singled out PSLE as a reason to take leave.
Allowing parents to take leave during PSLE and OPENLY endorsing PSLE as a valid reason to take leave can have different impact on the employees. To say OCBC is fuelling fear is not totally untrue.
Already there are some on the thread who are hinting that PSLE leave should be formalised (i.e., what if there were no label and corporation declines to give, how?), i.e. now pressure is put on other corporations/institutions to follow suit.
It's a slippery slope, it exploits fears.
Pretty unhealthy, isn't it? JT is spot on, the fact that she stirred controversy tells you that she is spot on. -
I missed the transition… gangnam = ??

Sorry if I missed some of the threads here. But I don't recall reading anyone saying it should be formalised.

In fact, I have posted that OCBC may just be formalising this policy since they are already seeing many parents taking leave during the PSLE period.
I don't believe that what OCBC do can put pressure on other companies to follow suit. It is not as if it is sanctioned by the govt like maternity leave or childcare leave. Even for childcare leave, the govt gives ALOT of leeway to companies on how to administer it.
If other companies do not see the need to inplement this so-called \"PSLE Leave\", they don't need to do so, and no one can put pressure on them to implement it. -

Sometimes, I can’t help but blame the media for this. The leave policy is a private organization’s initiative, why should the media report it and put some emphasis on the PSLE leave?
As it is my company also allows us to carry over 50% of our leave entitlement which we can use for anything (and I believe PSLE period included), but there’s no hoo-ha about it.
To be frank, when I first saw the news report, my first thought was : Wah, how much more effort do I have to put in so that my child will not be disadvantaged because my company doesn’t give me PSLE leave?? Then on a very slow hindsight and conscious effort, I have to remind myself that I am a mum who believes in consistent work, so PSLE leave or not, I should not give two hoots about it. -

The leave which hubby took was left over from last year...those 9 days have to be utilised before they are forfeited. Can 9 days be of any help to pass PSLE or even any exam ? 抱佛脚都没用. It was a minister who brought up the issue of feeding into fears, not the media.
