When my girl was 3+, she clings to me like a koala bear whenever we go into the pool.

Then I saw an instructor conducting swim lessons for little kids her age. The instructor took her in and within 2 lessons, she is blowing bubbles with her head underneath water and is able to kick 30m using a kickboard.
Within 6 months, she caught up with all the kids in her class (who have learnt way before her). She took her Lifesaver level 1 (the easiest one) about 9 months into her lessons.
The instructor is very good with children.
If you need his contact, you can PM me. He teaches at Jalan Besar on Sunday mornings and on other days he is usually in Tampines or Sengkang.

Without his teaching, my girl cannot be what she is today.

My 2 older kids started taking on lessons when they were 5 and 6 years old from a old pal who is a coach. They finally learnt how to swim after a couple of months. Actually.. I thought that was slow. Also, my dd1 would sometimes cry during lessons when her coach asked her to go to the deep end so lots of tension.


They learnt for about a year. We stopped when we moved. Now at 10 and 11, they can float, do breaststroke and freestyle but I always feel that their stroke is not good and they lack the stamina to do proper laps. I called the contact provided here and they are starting their lessons this friday with my P1 who totally does not know how to swim. Hopefully we get someone good and effective.

Thought of providing some update since I chanced upon this thread again.

So it's been 3 months since the kids started with the coach. Their strokes are so much better now and can do laps (but they do not have stamina yet to do many continuous laps). For my dd 2 who is P1, she only started learning swimming 3 months back and last week, she did 2 laps of breaststroke in the deep pool on her own (with coach near her but not holding on to her). So i thought that was quite decent.

most churches have jumbo sales, or they have a thrift shop.
as your children are growing fast, there is no need to buy the expensive ones, or even new ones.
My son has outgrown his shoes and swim clothes at the rate of twice per year. Hence, it was a waste of money buying him good ones, and then have to change them every 6 months.

I want to start off my youngest DS for swimming come next Jan, 2013. Any recommendation in Sengkang? I only want from 11am - 12pm to coincide with the other two DSs.

Depending on the age. Here are some of my observation. To be able to swim at least a 10 meter without float/support..and 5 meter on your back.

age 2 to 4 years old: 8 months to a year
age 5 to 7 years old: 5 to 8 months
age 8 to 12 years old: 3 to 6 months.

So take this as your gauge. Thanks.

Hi! Can u share with us the reason for the difference in length of time to master swimming? Is there a \"best time\" (eg 5yo) to learn to swim?

My girl’s previous instructor: $120 for 8 lessons in a group of 8 kids.

Public Holiday-- got make up lesson.
MC/Rain–no make up lesson.
