That is exactly what I said. Isn't something seriously wrong if people need to take time off work for their childrens' exams? Am I really expected to give up all my annual leave for 3 years for each of my children because the system is such that the preparation done in school is insufficient.
It just goes to show, how much stress PSLE imposes on the parents and children! MOE should be ashamed! :rotflmao: :rotflmao:Coolkidsrock2:
Channel News Asia just reported that OCBC announced that they will be granting staff (minimum 5 years tenure with them) sabbatical leave for PSLE preparation. :rahrah: :rahrah: :rahrah:
Hope more corporations will be similarly enlightened and roll out similar work life balance initiative. :xedfingers:
It's a great initiative on the part of OCBC but a sad reflection on our society. -

Imagine once I heard Colleague A said she would have 40 days leave next yr. She meant \"20 days leave + MC 14 days + 6 days Child Leave\" to me. Really got such people okie :yikes:
Really wonder which doctor they go to. Is it they buy a season pass or MC booklet beforehand....

I had a good lesson today. Met an old bird of my organization. She just got her long service award of 35years. Well done, right?
She told me she would be clearing her leave soon and that we would meet next year. :yikes: she going nom pay leave, I asked? Nah... She said. She would be clearing the rest of her mc entitlement of 30 days + extended mc of 10 days + 13 days of annual leave brought forward from last year. Wah..... I was concerned, was she erm... Sick? She said no, all she did was to ask her doc to issue letter for her weak knees.
Well done. Win hands down. I pity her team. -

She has the cheek to tell you?! These people are strange right? So she has not used any of her annual leave for this year if she is clearing from last yr?! -

:rotflmao: chill chill... It's quite an unspoken norm here - clear this year's mc, then this year's misc leave (eg exam leave, chilcdare leave, bday leave, parent care leave, study leave, leave in lieu etc), then last year's annual leave.... Still not enough, then extended mc. Leave this year's annual leave untouched.

And people like this will still complain! Do they not realise that in the long run the company suffers and so do they if bad times hit.
We are not allowed to carry over more than 5 days annual leave and we are expected to plan out how we are going to take our leave across the year. If any member of my team consistently used up all their MC entitlement every year I would be worried. I have been working in Singapore for 14 years and probably still haven't used up one year's entitlement! -
30 days MC entitlement? Wow your company very good. Thought the norm was 14 days. And I must say your company is really lax with the leave approval or is it that easy to obtain necessary document proof for the specified leave.

If she is caught overseas or engaged in some activities that a \"sick\" person shouldn't be doing.. then gxgx liao..

My current company don't care if you late or not.. just \"make up\" the same amount can already. E.g. 10mins late, go back 10mins later. End of story. no need explain, no need approve. Staff need to punch card so all the timings are captured.
Every morning, I drop my daughter off at the nursery near my workplace. Some mornings are happy, some starts with tears. Just like my daughter's mood, on some mornings, the traffic on the expressways are better on certain days, worse on others. And when we reach the nursery, sometimes it is what is expected, sometimes there is a long queue. Today was one of those mornings that didn't start as well as it should be. I ended up being 10 minutes late; arriving at 8:40am instead of the required 8:30am. :yikes:
And for this, I was reprimanded by the manager. When I wanted to explain, I was essentially told that punctuality (or the lack of, rather) is not tolerable, if I cannot be on time everyday, I should apply to come in 15mins late and end 15mins later. I wonder what got into me - the dam just shattered and I found myself crying!
Perhaps because I try so hard? And if I have tried so hard and sometimes still end up being a worldly 10 minutes late, I am reprimanded such? :siao: These are the days that I really feel like quitting - why bother trying so hard? I'm sure my daughter doesn't appreciate being chased out of the bed / door every morning! On days like this I wonder why I even try at all... :stupid: Am I working with the wrong people? Or perhaps if I cannot be on time I shouldn't even be working at all? So if my boss has a deadline do I even bother staying late? Maybe I should asked to be paid OT by the minute?   -

chill nms1... I understand what you are pointing out but seriously, these people wont realise that. why? because they have been doing it for donkey years!

It is good that companies formalise leave planning or something along the line. This reminds me of yet another case. Two years ago, this colleague was pregnant and due to give birth in Dec. In her team, thereโs a peer and a team lead. Team lead said she wanted to clear all her 25 days leave in end nov/whole dec because her kids would be havign school holidays. That peer, although single, also wanted to clear his leave for the whole of Dec. This pregnant lady was very worried. Who would be covering her, when her only peer and her boss were both so insisted going on leave when she would be due?
Companies/management need to look into such cases. In my opinion, the team lead ought to be shot. Then followed by the peer. As a team lead, she shd lead by example. Her subordinate was delivering soon, not something unexpected or something in which there could be flexibility in the timeline.
