Daughter is in a convent school. Before I registered her there, I asked my gf whose older gal is studying there. She said, ‘educate and remind her…keep her feet on the ground’.

yes same view here... not to repeat the same old phrase that we as parents should be responsible, but we should know how and what to teach them rather than depending on the school.... if dc learn wrongly, its hard to turn back...

there's no rewind or undo button in life...

What chinese pri sch is she in for her to behave in this manner? On the contrary, going to a convent school, you'll come into contact with different sets of people, and the values taught is very different. Definitely it will not be what she is learning now.

So, did she learn her materialistic values from her chinese pri sch, or from home?

My P5 nephew learns the materialistic values from both his well known elite school & home. He told his dad to get a bigger new car & move to a bigger new house. Unfortunately, his dad is not rich enough to afford them. He wanted iPhone 5 & most of his friends have iPhone 5. His dad wanted his son to mix with the rich & GEP. The boy becomes very materialistic & keep requesting for things from his parents. Good values have to start from home.

Kids compare. It’s natural. This is when we have to step in and explain that they cannot ask parents for whatever their classmates own…my daughter asked for a party at a country club, a holiday to Hong Kong etc etc.

She is in a convent school. With both parents working, they can afford to give their kids material stuff.

Hubby & I have to explain and remind them frequently:
1) what others have, do not expect to have the same…kids in 3rd world countries don’t even have food or clothes to wear.

2) do not compare their results with those who are weaker.

u cannot compare like that because every sch will have their own share of brand conscious pupils... who may hv very busy parents who overlooked this value to them...
