Wanna to know some good places for holiday?

Can be a concern if u r traveling with young kids. Do some research n see if the period u r visiting is peak season not, and take it from there. Of course it helps if u r not overly particular about the accommodation standard. For me, I'm alright as long as the place is safe n clean. No need for unnecessary amenities or services. Can compromise abit on location (no need to be in city area) if you hv a car.

Agreed with the 'take it easy' style of road trip.

My first long trip was in NZ in yr 2000, 4 adults self drive. Upon reaching Auckland I pre-booked the 2 weeks accommodation in South island, ended up rushing from one place to another and missed some scenic spots on the way, till we decided to call them up one by one to postpone the dates.

Throughout the years we learn that we just need to play by ear, always prepared to lower our expectations in accommodation. We slept in car with 1YO son in Japan trip. Last year US west coast, we camped in forest camp ground with freezing temperature and till today, my 5YO still remember collecting tree branches to make camp fire, and wanting to do so when we are in a woods or places looked like one. My 80 YO mil also slept in the MPV with us!

The bottom line is, as long you are adventurous and can accept the 'down to earth' kind of 'sleeping place', you are ready for a unplanned or not-so-planned road trip.

LOL[/quote]While there are always proponents of unplanned, there are also proponents of planned self drive vacation as well. While I agree that you can take your time with unplanned trips. It does not mean that planned trips need to be rushed. It all depends on how you plan. I have always planned my trips because I expect quality accommodation. One can say I am not adventurous, but I will say that if I vacation, I don't do hardship trips. One can be adventurous without hardships. Why would i want my family to suffer in the cold in an MPV? To me a vacation is for relaxation and fun. but that is just me. To each its own.

But more importantly by planning and pre booking my vacation, it does not mean that I am rushing fr place to place. I give myself ample time to smell the roses. I just know where I will sleep that night. Frankly it boils down to good planning or bad planning. I don't do commando type trips. I have lots of time to sit down for coffee, and watch the world go by. That is because I never felt the need to make my money's worth by visiting as many places as I can when i plan my vacation. I tell myself I can always visit again. No big deal.

This is just my style. Just want to present a different side of story that planning does not mean a rushed trip. Boils down to how good is one's planning. Also doesn't mean sleeping in a hotel or quality accom very night is not being adventurous.

you must book 180 days in advance or at least 120 days. Any later, you may not be able to get decent dining times at the popular places. Some ultra popular restaurants are gone within days or weeks of release for bookings. Many first time visitors are unaware and could end up disappointed. This is esp important if you are going to be 3 families and will be a big group :sad:

We are going Taiwan 16days Slow & Steady F&E......I bring my parents for holidays every other yr. This yr they wish to go Taiwan.


I did pre-book all my Minsu and Hotels because there are places we like to be for our kids and I dont want to stress my parents :rotflmao:

Have fun! My dad also keen on Taiwan after watching the travel shows on tv. Pls tell us all abt your trip on the Taiwan thread when you get back. :). Maybe if I go next time can take easy way out and \"steal\" your itinerary :evil:

Actually, Malaysia is my favourite, followed by Thailand Krabi\\Phuket.

Cheap, nearby, I just need 3D2N, I can drive, or I can go via budget air.
Genting Highlands and Malacca are popular for my family.

I love the following countries too :
- Taiwan - I love the food and friendly culture
- Hongkong - Mummy loves to shop, eat and sight-seeing
- Goldcoast - Kids remember Australia's farms (rather than themeparks)
