Indonesian passport costs only $50 to renew if we go to the embassy directly. Maid agencies are still charging $300 to renew Indonesian passports !!!

My maid and I just went to Indon Embassy 3 weeks back and it was stated on the board that renewal of passport is $35. Anyway, my maid said that it'll cost about S$60++ to renew in Indon.

$50 is inclusive of photos. Did you take photos there ? How much does it cost now ?

BTW, for Indonesia maid passport renewal, my impression is that the employer must do it PERSONALLY. The agent or family member cannot do it on their behalf. I think this is because the contract between the maid and employer need to be sign on the spot as well.


I recalled that when I did it in Sept this year, there was a auntie who came with her son’s maid. They were not appropriately dress (shorts and slippers) so had to borrow clothes to enter the embassy. In addition, she was definitely ill informed of all the processes.

The renewal is not that painful so long as you prepare the information in advance (eg. maid’s family details,etc…) and personally spend time at the embassy. It took us 1/2 day. Collection was a breeze.

If you ask maid agencies to renew the passport, you still need to spend half a day at the embassy and go through the interview. The maid agency still charge you $300.

In the first place, what right does she have to decide where she wants to leave from. Myanmar maids can really speak their mind. Indonesia maid not so bold.

Compared to filipino maids and myanmar maids, I think Indonesian maids are generally more obedient and thus more suitable to be maids

But I have also heard of Indonesian maids who dare to give black face. Though none of my 5 Indonesian maids so far gave me black face before. I had one filipino maid who liked to give me the disgusted look.
