It is not just in convent schools. Most kids study in independent schools are from well to do families. Their parents are able to afford branded stuffs. Most kids will tend to compare with their friends. Not all kids understand that every child comes from different family background. Sometime is due to peer pressure.Hi Parents,
I'm also interested to know if students from convent school are more brand conscious ?
How about SCGS and Nanyang ? -
mummy so kiasu:
yes...it's tough for kids not to be able to understand every child comes from diff background...harder to explain to younger kids but still have to explain and teach...there is no end to comparison. even my maids used to complain their friends no need to wash car, why must they? :slapshead:

but i appreciate parents who teach their dc not to be too outspoken esp in front of others... learnt this from a friend... they are not that well-to-do but above average... her dd was very talkative and once she commented about a kid who happen to pass by and wear a t-shirt which was worn off and had 2 holes at the back... she immediately said, \"eee, mummy see that boy, his shirt po dong (η ΄ζ΄)\".
another time she saw a nurse carrying a lv bag, she said \"mummy u see that bag, is it lv? that is the bag u said worth twice ur salary? wah the nurse earn alot leh..\"
i will be super embarrassed to be te kan by my dd.... lol... -
Veryksmummy,
My kid is those kind outspoken type. I had since grow thick skin and able to handle all kinds of questions. Some times can be pretty funny - like when a stranger spoke to me, I answer and he asked in front of the stranger why am I talking to stranger when he can't.

oh my, the \"thick skin\" is hard to cultivate for me... my face turns red and flushed very easily...Veryksmummy,

once, i brought my little nephew who was only 4yo back then.. we went into a lift and a tall indian man came in... my nephew hugged me tightly.. he smiled to my nephew and seems to be very friendly kind... and suddenly my nephew cried and said,\"mummy mummy, i want mummy, got monster.... mummy mummy...\" and kept crying non stop...
not trying to create any thing other than to tell u the kind of embarrassment i had back then... i was like so sorry but didnt know what to say... he seldom go out and thus may not have met indians, what's more when he is tall and strong...
i still cant help feeling embarrassed now when i'm thinking about it... -
