Oh I hv read something along that line too. Here's what I take away from something I hv read - learning to play a piano is like a total Brain workout as it involves reading the notes, manning the foot pedals, listening to the sound and of course with both hands on the keys. While I am not so sure about the iq bit, I am sure such activities expand the capacity of the brain. This in turn will definitely be beneficial for academic learning.

My niece and nephew have been learning the piano for the past 10 yrs. Nephew at grade 8 practical (can't remember his theory, if I remembered correctly, it's grade 7) and niece at grade 6. Both are ip students. I am sure their learning to play the piano must have benefitted their school work in some ways.

There is no concrete proof that learning piano increases IQ, but study did show that people who play piano regenerates brain nerves at faster rate than those who don't. Hence the advice of picking up a musical instrument to counter Alzheimer when we grow older.

Beside learning to appreciate classical piano music, there are many good habits and principles that students can pick up while learning piano. These habits can then be applied to their academic study. For example learning how to organize and segment practice, time management, self-discipline, public presentation, setting goals, research skills, etc.

Which model of Bosendorfer are you looking at? I didn't know that Bosendorfers are assembled in Korea.

Don't ever think of buying Wilhem Tell. it's not durable at all. The piano easily out of tune every tuning in 6 months, the keys touch very light as playing on the electronic keyboard.
Not sure about Bosendorfer. Yamaha U1 it's not overprice, as it's really durable, even the 2nd hand U1 model.

Most kids if trained well should be able to sit down and practice by themselves from as young as 4 or even 3. But at this age, their ability to think critically is still not developed yet i.e. they may treat practice sessions as just tinkering sessions on the piano. So it is important as far as possible for parents to sit down with them to help them plan the practices and provide feedbacks on their playings. Parents should also work closely with teachers so they know what to fix or learn during the week.

The age when children can more or less automate their piano learning will depend on their maturity and motivation level. But from my experience, around 8 or 9 years old can more or less give more freedom. Still good idea to help them out from time to time and check their progress.

Personally of coz wld find jpn made sounds better... Bt can really feel d pinch

Good deal?[/quote]Hi, I only knew Bosendorfer to be quite a premium brand, their uprights going for more than mid 5 digits. Not sure if we are talking about the same Bosendorfer. If we are, then would say that sounds like an unbelievable deal.
