My DD failed her p5 maths exam. Can someone pls recommend a good maths tutor to me. Very worried for her psle maths next year. She needs a one-to one tutor. No agency please.

The prinicipal of the centre I teach at is a math specialist. I think you can call him and talk to him about the course and your child’s needs. Would you like me to give you his contact?

It's a good idea to do so especially for languages. In my experience, it takes about a year to get a student to score As for their English.

My P5 daughter failed badly for her English SA1 and SA2, esp her vocabulary sections. Is there a list of words that the students must knows? There are so many vocabulary assessment books and i don’t know where to start from as there is not much time left. Can anyone help?tks!

Does your girl read newspaper or magazine about certain topic? I know of parent whom will select articles , cut and paste for kiddo to read. This may help with cloze passage as well as vocabulary to some extent. Continue to expose her to reading books. Not to scare you but vocab cannot be built overnight, so you have to encourage her not to give up. -

Hi! Another way to expand vocabulary is to build on existing words that she already knows by introducing synonyms and antonyms. Like the word beautiful - you can expand on it and brainstorm with her what are some other words that share a similar meaning, like gorgeous, pretty, attractive, etc. and you can then look up a thesaurus and expand on the word list. Do the same with words that mean the opposite of beautiful, like ugly, hideous, disgusting etc. Write them down in mindmap style for easier recall. You could also add in some idioms or similes relating to those words.
Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any vocab lists that p5 students should know. perhaps you could get your daughter to compile her own list based on the school worksheets and test papers? Hope this helps. -

My only advice to you is to get her to read more books. It really helps.
I used to doubt when people keep telling me that reading is the only way to improve English. Now, I've seen the actual proof in its benefits. DD used to score 80s for her Eng but since she started reading intensively this year, her Eng has improved to 95 marks for this SA2. It is no overnight miracle. It took her 9 months to see the results.
By the way, DD is Pri 4 this year and going on to Pri 5 in 2013.
